This picture is the only time I ever found Volvariella bombycina - silky sheath, silky rosegill. It is a very large #mushroom and begins developing in a thin, egg-like sac. It is edible and I couldn't bring myself to take it. The cap is the best part and furry like a rabbit. #fungifriends #fungi

Welp, this certainly isn't worth writing home about but I just got time to finally process it from two nights ago. The skies were overcast and the winds were blowing 20 miles an hour so I'm lucky I got anything. #astrophotography

This is an image of the middle region of the California Nebula NGC 1499 showing its rich red hydrogen alpha gases. NGC 1499 is a long bright emission nebula ionized by the star Xi Perseus and is located in the constellation Perseus. Its name comes from its resemblance to the state of California in long exposure photographs.

This #lichen on a rock by a river in summer time

Lichen on a rock and a green leaf. Overall the image, brightly coloured, looks like a map of empires or an aerial photo of trench warfare. The rock is rough and sandy, gnarled - you could sharpen a stick on it. There are many lichen jostling for space on the rock. Cream, grey, blue - cool colours like smoke. Dark lines have been drawn between them. Some looking like craters be-speckled with black peppercorn spots some large and some barely visible (ground troops perhaps) and in great swathes and patches across this map a velvet red lichen rages. Fires still burning. The green leaf is a lovely contrast refreshing almost pristine but for a few spots of red rust as if it had been singed by the lichen burning beneath it
