Some young velvet shanks today on property. I didn't have the proper container to grab the slippery gems so I will get them tomorrow. #fungifriends

Go big or stay home. In town today and lots of folks are already decorating. This massive skeleton won the show. I talked to the young couple and told them how awesome it was to see people in the spirit 😎

Disappointing weekend for mushrooms. We have had no rain for weeks so hopefully rain will arrive soon. My cucs have done so well this season. I gave them a brown sugar and baking soda mixture mixed with water twice throughout the season and I guess that's why? Read it on a garden site. #gardening

The weather is starting to get cooler and my cherry tomatoes are having a hard time ripening. Placed in a box with a banana and closed box. Took about 7 days but so far so good. There are at least 60 in the box. #gardening

Look at my beautiful #organic leeks! Made leek, sausage hearty stew. Used one of my habanero peppers to slowly cook for added flavour in the crock. The stew turned out delish. I think I like hot peppers 🌶️ when I use them different ways. Made pico de Gallo on the weekend with them. Yum #gardening

Where my property meets the neighbours farm field the puffballs LOVE this spot. Last season I found 3 smaller ones and today just one gigantic dinosaur egg. 2nd pic. is from a distance to show the massive size. Left it for the slugs and wildlife. #fungifriends #photography #ontario

I decided to have a "me" day and bought this beautiful orchid. Haven't bought much in the past year except a new heating blanket that was on sale. I pay cash for groceries/items for the past four months now, not 100% "why" but it just feels right for some reason?

Today's morning walk. A small amount of bears tooth, homegrown wine caps for dinner tonight. Large puffball and smaller ones. I'm not a big fan of puffys so I usually leave them. Happy Labour Day to my Canadian friends and Labor Day to my American ones. ❤️ #fungifriends

Not much on today's walk as it's been so hot and humid. It is going to cool down this weekend to 22°c and with all the rain it should be good, but who knows? I was finding puffys this time last season which is odd and early for them. Mushrooms do what they do - no rhyme or reason. #ontario #fungi

I bought this habanero pepper plant late in the season for I think .50 as I felt bad for it. I'm not a huge lover of screaming demons but our son is. It is doing well after I gave it a hair cut. Not sure what to do with it - beans are doing well again. #ontario #gardening

I have an abundance of zucchini (jokes are true) Yesterday, hubby and I made fritters. The garden has been pretty good with failures of course. Next season I'm already planning on what worked in my zone and how to improve. #gardens #ontario #lakeontario 👍

Thinking back to the year 2000 and how terrified everyone was...lol Bank systems shutting down, computers crashing basically a computer induced apocalypse. That time was a walk in the park compared to the world today.

The season is starting for matsutake - pine mushroom. One of my top five, tonight's supper is fettuccine, garlic, matsutake alfredo. Hard to find at this young stage. Found this patch ten years ago and it never lets me down. #fungifriends

Such a devastating scene 😞 literally thousands of emerald ash borer larvae crawling in front of a huge ash tree. Zoom in as they're all in the large puddle too. We are cutting a lot of dead smaller ash this weekend. #ontario

Tomatoes, peppers, 🌶️ and beans doing ok. Low growing bellflower Hydrangea and inpatients.Day Lily.

Today's post is lettuce appreciation day. The different varieties of lettuce all did well. I can't keep up with eating it. The romaine is bolting. Planting the hydroponic lettuce grows so perfect and no bitterness from a second harvest. Lots of rain lately though. Good for plants bad for mosquitos.

Disappointing to find my wine caps shredded like this overnight. Hopefully once it cools down the bugs will chill out. Another hot day so I made lasagne early this morning to beat the heat. Pricey to make - cottage cheese was $8!? Oh well, it's such a comfort food and some days you just need it.
