Nocchi et al. compared hybridization and local adaptation within Canada spruce hybrid zones, discovering a complex pattern of introgression, with strong differences in ancestry maintained even across small spatial scales. 🔗 doi.org/10.1093/molbev/msag074 📷️ Sam Yeaman #evobio #molbio #PlantSky

Happy to share this paper with @samyeaman.bsky.social, now published in Molecular Biology and Evolution! Using replicated hybrid zones, we explored patterns of local adaptation and introgression in spruce and found strong signals even at very fine geographical scales! doi.org/10.1093/molb...

This isn't shortread data, but alignments of genome assemblies with N50 > 100Mb. The plot is the # of bp per 100Kb window that are dropped because of missing data -- because those bp physically are not there in one of the other 25 genomes. This is what normal plant genomes look like, folks.

Hi all! I’m looking for a postdoc or research collaboration in evolutionary genomics. I have been doing a lot of work on adaptation (local and global) for the past few years. I am particularly interested in studying these processes through repeated systems and comparative genomics.

Gabriele's paper is out in PNAS! He found a large number of genes with repeated sweeps in multiple plant species. Most interestingly: they tend to be peripheral in co-expression networks (low pleiotropy), consistent with mig-sel theory!! @gabnocgenomics.bsky.social www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...
