That's because Youtube pays 3 different ways, for subscription plays of official uploads, nonsubscription plays of official uploads, and plays of unofficial (UCG) uploads. (Also we've heard that rather than a single rate, YT pays variable rates based on what it earns for ads, the rightsholder, etc.)

Part of the new Jayapal proposal is to break AI off from big tech so, for example, it can't be integrated into Google Search. (or even, like, Bing)

Manatt does a good job of running basic numbers for 3 leading services here: www.manatt.com/music-stream... (Note Amazon Music is currently a loss-leader, which is...problematic in other ways!) Given the service design, Youtube would be hard to integrate into this chart.

It’s absolutely a fair point that YouTube deserves more scrutiny and that Spotify wouldn’t exist in the dysfunctional way that it does without YouTube. YouTube per stream rates have improved relatively recently as ad placement has become more aggressive, but it’s difficult to do an 1:1 comparison.

New ruling confirms what we’ve been saying: Ticketmaster publicly says resale is the problem, while privately encouraging price gouging so they can profit from it. The solution: ☑️Break Up Ticketmaster ☑️Cap Resale ☑️Create strong rules of the road that apply to all companies!

True, and the way the mayor's social channels have organic reach right to many of the populations that programs would typically target makes it kind of a slam dunk.

Agreed BUT they're also up against some unique problems with NY state law and taking advantage of a cool loophole: NY doesn't allow presenters to stop resale of tickets, so discount tix often end up on resale sites. But venues CAN prohibit resale of FREE tix.

This is one crucially important piece of the puzzle. Our choices as consumers about how we spend money, time, and our limited attention resources on journalism and art matter. At the same time, the fight against this merger isn't over, and the movement building work continues as well.

The Met also deserves credit for its transparent ticketing, which displays total price, face price, and fees from the beginning of the transaction without additional clicks. Both Ticketmaster and Stubhub fail to do this, despite it being required by law in NY state.

Harry Styles' tour announcement helpfully draws attention to the fact that artists only set the face price of tickets, and have no control over the fees. Both Ticketmaster and Stubhub oppose artists' efforts to make sure every fan gets to see how much they're paying in fees.
