Graphing, sizing said graphs, resizing those graphs, & then positioning those graphs into a publication figure WILL BE WHAT DEFEATS ME during this PhD

Reading the research =/= doing the research

Semantics MATTER when talking about science. So many misinformed people will say that scientists report vaccines are supposed to prevent infection “If the vaccine works why did I still get Covid?” INCORRECT… Vaccines are supposed to prevent severe disease (& death) from infection

As near as I can tell, RFK Jr’s plan to Make America Healthy Again is to simply stop collecting any information on health. If there’s no data, the data can’t look bad, I guess?

After the Trump administration peddled that nonsense & fear surrounding transgender mice, our institution has been targeted. We had to increase security measures at the research buildings. Everything is badge access only now at all hours of the day.

There currently is no cure for asthma but controlled medications have dramatically reduced the need &/or frequent use of rescue medications. 💗 More research needs to be done to understand the complexity of the disease, how triggers modify medication responses, & so much more. 8/8

Asthma is a life-threatening condition if left untreated but can be managed. Rescue medications help reverse the immediate symptoms of asthma flares. However, as it is a chronic disease, symptoms will return. 7/

Now imagine the straw has a thick sticky coating inside… when u look thru it’s narrow & has a tight string wrapped around it, enclosing that air space even more. When you try to blow through, it takes a lot of force to get air thru. This is how it feels to breathe w/ asthma. 6/

What’s it like to breathe with asthmatic lungs? Imagine your airway is like a big boba straw… when you look through it, you can easily see to the other side & when you blow through it there is plentyyyyy of space for the air to fly through. That’s a healthy airway. 5/

Ppl w/ asthma tend to have “triggers” that cause attacks or flares. Triggers vary depending on the type of asthma (allergic vs non-allergic), person, & nature of the trigger (allergen in the air/food, exercise, etc). While it may be difficult, it’s important to understand your asthma triggers. 4/

In addition to difficulty breathing, asthmatics exhibit symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, & chest tightness. 3/

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory lung disease that impacts 100s of millions of ppl worldwide 🤯 It is characterized by inflammation in the airways (aka narrowing of air space), tightening of the muscles that surround the airways, & excessive mucous… which makes it very difficult to breathe. 🫁 2/

If I told you I am an immunology PhD candidate studying allergy & asthma, and I’ve also looked at how obesity impacts asthma. What questions would you have about asthma, asthma research, or anything related?

No woman’s married name matches their birth certificate thus making them ineligible to vote. The Save Act will suppress women’s votes. Watch this female constituent drag McCormick (R-GA) at his town hall saying: “Why are you so scared for me to vote”?

To all my PhD besties out there, one mistake does not mean you’re a failure. Failure is not trying again after making the mistake.
