Good to see she included Michelle Paver's Dark Matter. Discovered it by chance in a BBC R4 adaptation & was captivated. Have you read Thin Air, too? Masterful spooking.

Accuracy matters. Since 2018 there have actually been 17 convictions for voter fraud from approx 47 million voters. And 11 election convictions from approx 1300 Reform/Brexit Party officials. That's about 25,000 times more convictions per capita. I did the maths. You're welcome.

Oh, please don't be. I spend most of my time in a pinny, going round with a damp cloth or welding a vacuum cleaner. Unenviable.

As I'm on a boasting spree ..... I've also seen another salsa/Latino king, Eddie Palmieri. In NYC. As well as Sun Ra & his Arkestra. Even have a photo of me with the latter but in pre-digital days, so can't attach.

Tito Puente was king of NY salsa/Latino scene for many yrs & Celia Cruz was major singer on that scene. Saw them at Hammersith Palais. Both now deceased. Mariza: Portuguese fado singer extraordinaire. Saw her @ Purcell Room & Queen Elizabeth Hall @South Bank. Do please seek them out - amazing!

Wow! Missed 'Road' but saw him in the musical he wrote, 'Apples', at Royal Court. Brazenly sat on his lap in the pub round the corner on more than one occasion. Shocking.

Memory fails me somewhat but suspect they weren't on that tour. Though they did play on their own tour at Lancaster shortly afterwards.

It was! I was at Lancaster Uni doing interviews for the radio station. Playing football around the concert hall during soundcheck, with the Madness 'mascot' rubber chicken, Claude, was a hoot. So long ago. 1979 to be precise.

Not many foods I dislike but London eels/pie & mash are on my short list. Would love to see you in London, though. Better still, to see you in Venice. Sadly, only a premium bond win will make it poss to visit this year. Sob.

No. Grew up in Leeds then lived in Lancaster for 5 yrs. Never saw gherkins in chippies, let alone heard them called wallies, until I moved to London in '85. Must admit, the taste & smell of northern, dripping-fried fish & chips is the only thing I missed after moving south.

This very straight news piece buried deep within the FT never uses words like corruption or insider dealing but every detail is quietly devastating. Why is the FT virtually alone in the UK media in covering this important story?

Meet Mackenzie Bly (not his real name; see back cover). I wanted to write something purely funny, but fell in love with my lead character along the way. It's out in August, but the lovely proofs, with cover by Jim Kay, have just arrived. Repost before tomorrow (Sun) evening, and I'll pick a winner.
