As a UCLA student in the 1970's and '80's it was initially charming to run in to filming on campus. "Is that Barbara Eden?" By the end of my sophomore year it was "God dammit, get that McDonalds commercial out of my way!" I detoured to a longer walk to class (didn't want to be late).

My Elsa dispelled decades of my involuntary prejudices against pitties. My first real MINE dog at age 68 (me, not Elsa) has saved my life. And I got her for someone else. But for pitties and people, the heart wants what the heart wants.

Our dogperson HATES dancing (holding front legs) so to break her from jumping up on people (affectionately but at 70 pounds she's a big girl) all we had to do was grab her front legs and say "Let's dance!" Saying "let's dance!" stops her in her jumping tracks.

Have y'all tried faking a Southern accent? FWIW, my dog loves everyone so long as I don't pet or pay attention to any other dogs they might be accompanying. Jealousy. I reassure her that she's the best and we're good.

Offended bros could just adopt Two Mommy Tommy. Before anyone points out that these guys might not make the best dog owners (what makes a dog owner "best?") owning a dog has made me a better person. "I'll show them! I'll adopt and love the dog better than any lesbian could!" Go for it.

I originally thought, "That's how she always looks" then did a Google image search for her and, nope, she doesn't always look like she does in the now infamous closeup. She's a perky, smiling, MAGA nut. This new look? Priceless.

On amputating a front leg our vet told us our dogperson would get around fine (she did) as they told us that dogs are natural three legged creatures with a spare. Abby lived another 3 years quite happily, passing at the age of 17 in our arms with euthanization taking place with a vet in our home.

The discussions around consciousness remind me of the IAU eventually getting around to defining what a planet is in 2006. Previously, we all just knew what a planet was, forgetting that nobody had actually given a tight set of rules describing "planet." Thus with "consciousness" for me.

Note the first identifiable black person isn't until the last 30 seconds or so. Reminds me of some posters for some National Guard event posted in light rail train stops in St. Louis where every single person on every poster was white. Just like military demographics.

About 1982 I worked for a company with big iron mainframes in MD with remote access for us in LA. As employees we weren't charged for any of our time sharing costs because it was all funny money. Wrote a bouncing ball on the screen in APL and we all gleefully yelled, "$10,000 per minute! Whoa!"

Incredibly brusque, crude, verbally violent patron every librarian stopped helping. Found out he had a traumatic brain injury event (steel rod into cranium type injury). "Well, we now know WHY he's an asshole." Two of us ended up training him to be civil. The rest of the librarians just walked away.

Super irate patron angry that we couldn't give them access to a database to which we had no access. Patron (idiot): I'm a tax payer! I pay your salary! You have to give me the answers I want! You are incompetent, you know? Librarian (me) taking a coin from my pocket: Here's your dime back.

Why I quit the American Legion. - US Navy vet and librarian Volume 159, No. 3 (September 2005), p. 20.
"Libraries of Terror" displayed prominently as title of article on page 20 of American Legion, monthly publication of the American Legion. Volume 159, No. 3 (September 2005).

"Most U.S. libraries are tranquil centers for learning and reflection.
However, the next time you hear a misinformed lawmaker or media wag rail about the PATRIOT Act and its now-endangered “library provision,”
be aware that many of these institutions are being used as theaters of
operations for terrorists and pedophiles. And who can blame them? Some in the American Library Association have made them ideal places to plot crimes. Consider, first, how Islamic extremists have made themselves cozy in the libraries of America. At least seven of the 9/11 hijackers used government libraries before their attack. Khalid al-Mihdhar and Nawaf al-Hazmi used computers at a New Jersey state college to buy tickets for American Airlines Flight 77, which later plowed into the Pentagon."

Well, Custer was her age, 34, when he failed his mission at the Little Big Horn; Reinhard Heydrich directed the Einsatzgruppen death squads responsible for massive early-Holocaust massacres (such as the Babi Yar massacre) in his mid-30s.

Jeff was a Gunner’s Mate and I was a Quartermaster. We were the first crew of the USS Rentz (FFG-46). He worked in “the business” for decades as a stage crew member—grip, best boy, etc. Not a Navy diver; he self-certified and was on the crew filming underwater. And he was my best man at my wedding!

One of my many stances (which change as new information accrues) is that we humans are our own existential threat to civilization. Social media just removes the friction and increases the speed of our natural proclivities. Makes it easier to fuck with everything. I.e., I agree with you.

Consider: Trump chooses to promote people specifically because they're in the Epstein files thus he has immediate leverage over them. They must do whatever he says. And if he knows specifics, a lot more leverage. And if he fires them, they keep their mouths shut because "leverage."

And one of the strengths of soccer as an international sport to this American, is how delightfully different (and better in so many ways) the whole soccer culture is. I would not look forward to mandatory hydration breaks every 10 minutes.
