NASA's Aqua satellite captured this shot of Indonesia on 09/01, using the MODIS instrument. The red dots are hot spots from fires, and that's smoke, not clouds. In three weeks those wildfires released nearly 49 million tons of carbon. So we've got that going for us, which is nice.

Antarctica continues to lose sea ice well ahead of schedule. A record low maximum may be possible.

While probably just a statistical blip, Antarctica just lost a bit of sea ice. Only around 58,000 square kilometers, but still, pretty weird.
