“Oh.” Zaiquiri says, “Why?”

“Come back with me,” The words leave Zaiquiri’s lips before he can stop them, sounding like they were dragged from the depths of his soul. “We can stop this now. Leave this place and go somewhere, anywhere else. I don’t want to fight you.”

Emet narrows his eyes, maybe in disgust, maybe in sympathy, and doesn’t answer immediately. Like he’s thinking, but not at Zaiquiri’s words. Like maybe he was imagining someone else speaking those words, as if they would have convinced him had they been spoken by another, in another era, in a different life…

Finally, “Preposterous.” And he brings his other hand to close around the other side of Zaiq’s face, holding him in place forcefully as he leans in. “Your objective has always been to kill me, you pathetic excuse of a facsimile. You will never be him. You cannot try to be him. Speak these words again and I will strike you down where you stand.”

Emet looks over his shoulder to look at Zaiq, holding his greatsword.

A cocktail recipe for Gutter Cross

1.5oz Green apple vodka
0.5oz 99 Apples
0.25oz Blue curacao
0.5oz Island Punch Pucker
0.75oz Fresh lemon juice
1oz Apple celery cordial*
Citrus sparkling water
Pop rocks candy

Apple celery cordial
Half an apple, peeled and chopped
1 celery stalk, chopped
0.5oz water
0.5 cup sugar
1 lemon peel
Pinch of salt

Add apple, celery, and water to a blender and blend until loosely combined.

Add blended mixture, sugar, salt, and lemon peel to a saucepan. Heat over medium heat and stir until mixture is almost at a boil, then reduce temperature and simmer for at least 5 minutes. Mixture should be thick and syrupy when done. When syrup is cool, strain out solids using a fine mesh sieve. Extra syrup can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge.

Add crushed ice to a glass and stick a straw in until it reaches the bottom of the glass. Fill the straw halfway with pop rocks candy.

Add green apple vodka, 99 apples, blue curacao, Island Punch Pucker, lemon juice, and apple celery cordial to a cocktail shaker. Add ice and shake until chilled. Strain into the glass and top with citrus flavored sparkling water.
