What a beautiful shot. Sunset was very similar here, bright clear tangerine-yellow beneath the clouds. But the Costco parking lot has limited aesthetic potential, so I didn't snap it.

I had to interrupt my finicky time-sensitive work last night because Dipshit wouldn't stop barking at her plate and my husband was stumped I stopped what I was doing and she instantly started acting right A terrible precedent has been set in Purse Dog Law

Maybe I should stop "reading women's magazines," which is a medical term for "noticing that something unexpectedly and unambiguously changed under a well defined condition"

Nah, it'll keep 'em confused if you simply carry on saying "LLM," "chatbot," and "image generator."

Oh yeah, I do fantasize about having a coffee shop that uses my own mugs. People can have wifi, but there's gonna be food, or at least a bowl of boiled eggs, and we're gonna be open until two by-god ante meridiem. But I don't want to manage people So I don't see how that's gonna happen

My intended post-tech career path is piling rocks in a ravine until I have something roughly house-shaped. I think I caught a brain fungus in one 'em Appalachian art enclaves, but regardless,

I picked up a 30 pound suitcase in a completely normal way, and the next day I couldn't move my torso without shrieking. Young people don't usually get opportunities like that, you know?

I'm actually very particular about using "LLM" and avoiding the "AI" generalization, but my GOD this person pissed me off. I won't say "conservative" either, 'cause they aren't, but I don't go around saying that the word is "the biggest problem" with the rest of the political spectrum.

It's so true! Precise terminology matters when it's my pet topic, not when it's a niche concern like the history of technology.

Is it good politics to say, even disingenuously, that you'll try to legislatively trample genZ/millennial parents' rights in favor of what sounds like genX butthurt? There are so many more of them than us.

I just don't think that anyone putting _any_ energy into interpretation has had much direct contact with dementia. :/ "Did someone seed that, who, and why" and "how will xyz react" are potentially interesting questions. "What did he really mean" is not.

UV is the newest addition to my odor removal litany: pH down (vinegar), pH up (borax or bleach), Oxiclean, unscented enzyme cleaner (Odormute or Fizzion), and finally, show it to the blazing sun. They have dryers with UV in the UK and I'm so curious whether they have any juice.

Why is it infuriating? I never played a healer because everyone's so unpleasant to healers. Even friends. No, I have no plans to git gud, tyvm. But if I understand the definition of downranking, I used to find downlevel attack spells useful as a solo caster. Is that different?

Skagerak Georg is a statistical error adn should not be counted
Screenshot of a two-legged unfinished ("untreated") oak table on a blank white background. Its dowel-like wooden legs slant outward. A thumbnail depicts it in use as a writing desk.

Christian school graduate incapable of vetting sources, news at 11
Screenshot from the article:

Black, who is a vice president at a software development company, is aware that chatbots sometimes hallucinate — that's when chatbots respond to prompts with false, misleading or fabricated answers. To overcome that problem, he often checks the information one chatbot has provided him against another.

Batista from JHU said that method of fact checking is better than using the same model twice, but he hasn't seen evidence that it is effective.

There's a book, and pardon me for never shutting up about this, where the CDC has a subway stop. People take the subway. To the CDC. Without arranging their entire day around a glacial bus that runs twice a day. Without walking down and up a huge steep hill in oppressive heat or driving wind.

Love a perfectly civil instablock. May this be the stupidest thing I see today. How the fuck are people getting access to my files if not through malware? Are we still artisan hacking private individuals' machines?
@lacompa.bsky.social says, "You should worry more about people stealing your data files from your data store than them hacking into programs/apps you run."

I love that Tombstone tries things. I used to be hooked on one that had a cornmeal crust, veggies, and taco sauce instead of tomato. Are you aware that Costco has a solid gluten free pizza game? I think it's like 3 cheese, 2 junk, or 2 veggie pizzas, different brands, for about $12-13.

HOW could I raise this fine technical point if I didn't understand the words I used to raise it? WHERE did I ask for six paragraphs of blah blah blah that I have to read because it might, but probably does not, answer my goddamn question?
