I'm actually planning to do a maschine learning class this semester. I do think that ML has potential to do good. But I also think that LLMs are mostly harmful and overhyped. (Because language is such an important part of human life, people tend to ascribe features to an LLM that it does not have.)

Letting an AI write the code still means you have to spend time to make sure you actually understand what it does. I don't see how this saves any meaningful amount time unless you're skipping over the details.

In my mind I would distingush between good code and good-looking code. While choosing proper names for variables and functions and writing comments can help make code more readable, it can also do the opposite. It can mislead the person reading the code about what it does.

For example Microsoft now uses ML algorithms to translate their websites and OS. This works somewhat but quality control is missing completly. It's very obvious that nobody is proof reading any of these translations.

I don't think LLMs produce good output. The reason for their success is that they produce output that is "good enough". Companies are always trying to cut corners, even if it might lead to a worse customer experience.

As long as the IP address space is so limited IP addresses will remain expensive. IPv6 has an address space large enough to allow for self-assignment of randomized IP-addresses where address-colisions are extremly unlikely.

I have these two games from a german company that made interactive board games with a lil game console that is like a DM. 😊 (You won't need any dice. 😌) Do you prefer the game about dragons or the one about pirates? 🥺 (It's a trick question, I haven't found an english version for the dragon one. 😔)
