I didn't get to it until its second time at SFMOMA but hearing that it was once at the Hirschorn brings a whole new set of regret for missing it... The Hirshhorn is my favorite (art) Smithsonian... Knowing the SFMOMA owns it softens the blow, thank you!

Maybe that pickup driver in the sunset was trying to increase the neighborhood density by destroying a few homes allowing the high rises the Yes on G people fear. Wait. The driver that hit a building today/yesterday was across town.

A statistic that haunts me because it is 100% true and shocking and useless in advocacy precisely because it is true and shocking: Policy that enables a 1-car lifestyle rather than 2 is equivalent to giving a family a $25,000 annual pay raise.

If Connie Chan had her way, there would still be cars driving and parking on JFK Promenade. If she is elected to Congress, it's a safe bet that she will consistently vote to fund more high-speed roads, fewer bike lanes, fewer bus lanes, and fewer pedestrian spaces.

The carrot approach to speed cameras: Speed-detecting traffic signals that reward drivers for obeying the speed limit. If a driver is speeding towards the light, it will turn red. If the driver is approaching at a safe speed, it will turn green. These signals reduce speeding and injury crashes.

Cities see benefits from speed-detecting traffic signals
“The data is telling us that we’re seeing major, major reductions in both speeding drivers and in injury crashes,” Turner said.

We didn't seem to need a study to install a single flock camera or any shotspotter hardware, but if you want a bike lane, you're gonna need 40 people to die in the same spot before we can investigate the need.

NOAA launches the weather balloons, floats the ocean buoys, flies the satellites, and staffs the forecasters that tell us when storms are coming. That data supports about two-thirds of the economy, roughly $1.3 trillion a year, and it paid us back $73 for every dollar we spent on it.

Love that a prominent scientist is out here defending the science of transportation! Through scientific inquiry, we've learned and proven many of the things that work (and don't) for surface transpo safety. Bike lanes are proven to improve safety. If you believe in science, you agree with that.

14 hours later and my mentions are still full of angry treatises about badly behaved cyclists. Bike lanes are not a reward for good cyclist behavior! They are infrastructure proven to make cities safer for ALL ROAD USERS. Whatever way cyclists have wronged you is irrelevant to the discussion!

Every conversation about bike lanes is like: "Car crashes kill a huge number of people every day, including pedestrians, cyclists, & car occupants. Good bike infrastructure has been shown to make everyone safer (& doesn't increase congestion)." "But sometimes cyclists break rules & hit people!"

THREAD. Contrary to what you are being told, 40 years of polling have established that shifting money away from police/prisons toward social services is one of the most popular public policies among *all* political demographics. But it's not just that, it goes way deeper.

Opinion: Cars are the biggest threat on the road, not kids on e-scooters
All the outrage we feel about teens weaving on e-bikes and scooters would be better spent figuring out how to keep massive motorized vehicles away from all other road users
