After taking several months' break from CSS, I'm developing another website for a dear friend / longtime client. Full prototype in Figma, testing those new skills. Now working on the CSS. My very first site with a dark mode! Thanks as always to @kevinpowell.co for constant inspo.

I'm putting together a Figma prototype and in the process remembering how to use Figma. All this "hugging" is making me feel quite loved 😀

Who decided that scroll bars on the Mac had to be so skinny that it takes me longer to scroll on the browser than it does to repair a pair of eyeglasses? And don't tell me the "workaround." This is just plain shitty design. (Ok, please tell me the workaround. I used to love using my Mac.)

Claude's Support bot is telling me that my MacOS update seems to have broken something at the system level with credential storage. I'm unable to run Claude Code. Anyone else having this issue?

A couple days ago I shared my opinion that anyone who uses the word "pedagogy" on Discord should get a free chocolate chip cookie. For anyone who cares, I've expanded the criteria and now I think that anyone should get a free chocolate chip cookie.

2 things about @kevinpowell.co's new CSS Demystified course. 1. I was terrified of layers and the course gives a great intro. No longer terrified. 2. His joy and excitement are contagious -- an instant mood lifter every lesson. For anyone learning CSS: courses.thecascade.dev

@kevinpowell.co - I've recently finished Demystifying CSS (rev 1) and am near the beginning of the new refreshed version (CSS Mindset). I really like the new course platform and the mix of learning styles. Also I got the CSS down to 29 lines in the "Inheritance" exercise! Yay me

@kevinpowell.co Forgot to say in my post-course survey that an "aha" moment was when you mentioned that headings (H1, H2...) should not be used interchangeably with utility classes to apply styles to elements. They have a semantic meaning. That's why utility classes like .h1, .h2 are useful. Aha!

I just finished @kevinpowell.co's CSS Demystified -- the original version. Next up: the re-spun version in the course platform he designed himself. This is a fun milestone for a Friday morning. Happy Friday everyone!

@kevinpowell.co just blew my mind AGAIN with the idea of putting a class on the body of an HTML page and then using that class to specify different background images. On the BODY. .box-sizing: out-of-the-box :)

I love booking travel for my colleagues with American Express. It's a very old school experience - I call, they find the flights for me, there's a lot of waiting but the reps are all lovely to talk to and at the end of a convo with AmEx I feel so restored I had to add an "Amex" tag to my Oura app

Naming utility classes in CSS. Following @kevinpowell.co's idea I'm using "wrapper" to consistently contain the width of a layout element. The class that goes full width and gives it a background? Since that goes OUTSIDE the wrapper and you don't wear it all the time, I'm calling it ... poncho

I just created a hamburger menu where the middle slice is green. Because it's a veggie burger. This is for a landing page I'm creating for work and it gives me so much joy to put a little Easter egg in there.

Best thing I learned this morning: some people prefer not to use CSS shorthand for fonts and backgrounds because they're finicky and make the CSS less immediately understandable. Thanks @kevinpowell.co - this makes a big difference to me!

Apparently Clawdbot / Moltbot has just renamed as OpenClaw. I still find this confusing (not owned by Anthropic, but now it sounds like Claude and OpenAI had a child who can't spell). Also I'm going to delegate tasks to a claw? Creepy.

Wow! Has @kevinpowell.co redesigned his website? The new look is monochromatic, with a dark mode, more content, a cool typeface on the menu, and an awesome animated gradient on the course buttons. The former site was fine, but this one looks to be designed even more with accessibility in mind.
