Remedy continues to demonstrate that narrative is worthy of investment. People want stories. Good stories take time, expertise and patience/trust from devs who are less au fait with its mechanics (because it IS every bit as mechanical and design heavy as every other aspect of your game).

This was a fascinating exercise: find out what went wrong with creativity in the games industry. The conclusion: there are too many cowards controlling too many critical levers, and until we figure out how to put people -taste, creativity, and craft- back at the top, we're going to be stuck.

Ok I have more bad takes: one of my worst takes is that I always feel a twinge of suspicion at all of the "you need to kill your ego/you need to allow yourself to be brutalized by criticism/you are bad/your ideas are bad" takes that tend to accompany most game design ethos manifestos.

So, here's to another year. May this one be softer on us. Less grieving. More love. Taking the time to see friends, to write stories, to design and develop games. And thank you to everyone who contributed to my wonderful year. It wasn't that bad, eventually. Wishing you the best.

2025 was still a good year working-wise, maybe one of the best. I got to work on 6 different games, give talks in France and Belgium, teach and mentor students, meet amazing colleagues and friends. Oh, we even got awards for Caravan SandWitch. (and our players' feedback ♥)

But you know what? Screw it. 2026 will be different (aren't we all saying that every time a year ends? there must be a reason). This time, I will be living and working while listening to myself. I won't last another year if I burn myself again. And I still intent to live many years.
