Oh damn Dead Space was pretty good. It feels like it started as a System Shock game and got turned into RE4 midway which I understand is pretty much what happened. It gets carried a lot by how well the arsenal of weapons compliments the limb-cutting gimmick. The weapons are REALLY cool...

There are a lot of angry video essay-ish talking points I dislike but I particularly hate the one that goes “the creator has TRICKED the audience into liking this game”. It’s a really mean way of saying “style over substance” because it also casts creatives as malicious and the audience as stupid.

I don't think the game takes a "moral stance" on whether pacifism is the right thing to do. I don't even think the takeaway from Asriel's speech is "in the real world, pacifism doesn't work". I think maybe the more accurate read is that *people do not by nature like the idea of hurting others*.

The thing that hits me about Undertale in hindsight is the rebuttal of the idea that “human nature” is evil, and instead that a lot of evils dismissed as “human nature” are not in fact “natural” at all, but learned behavior or created by context.

Here's another anim for a potential powerup I did a little while ago: de-evolution serum that makes you a snake. Based on Metal Slug 4's monkey transformation. Were I to implement this it'd be cool to leave the molted skin as a separate object on the stage, because that'd be gross.
