Cloudy skies couldn’t dampen the fun at the 43rd Brunswick Railroad Days Festival! 🚂 It was great to explore the new community space, visit local vendors, enjoy music and great food, and take in the train rides and more. Thank you to everyone who made this year’s festival a success!

The image shows the inside of a vehicle as seen from the passenger-side doorway. In the foreground, a bright blue recycling bin is positioned inside the vehicle. The bin has a hinged lid that is slightly open, revealing two large, round, cartoon-style eyes mounted inside, giving the bin an animated character-like appearance. A hand is visible on the left side of the bin, holding it in place.
Seated behind the bin, in the driver’s seat, is an individual wearing a light-colored uniform shirt. The individual is leaning slightly toward the passenger side and facing the camera. The interior of the vehicle includes dark seats, a light-colored ceiling, sun visors, and various dashboard components. Sunlight streams in through the open door, creating a lens flare effect along the left side of the image. Some greenery and building details are faintly visible outside the window.A large group of individuals stands outdoors in front of a fire station building with tan metal siding and green trim. The building has signage reading “SPRING RIDG…” partially visible at the top left, along with labels above two garage bays that read “TANKER” and “ENGINE.” The sky above is bright blue with scattered clouds.
A large red emergency response vehicle occupies most of the background. The side of the vehicle displays bold white lettering that reads “FREDERICK COUNTY HAZARDOUS INCIDENT RESPONSE TEAM.” In front of this vehicle, a row of individuals stands side‑by‑side on a concrete surface. The individuals are dressed in various uniforms and professional attire, including dark-colored shirts, button-down shirts, and polo shirts. Great to kick off FCBIA’s 2nd annual Housing Symposium! We discussed affordability, housing targets, homebuyer programs, seniors, and more. I shared our work on the Housing Needs Assessment, Affordable Housing Strategic Plan and zoning reforms to expand opportunity across Frederick County.
An individual stands at a podium in a conference or meeting room, holding a microphone and addressing an audience. The individual wears a dark pinstripe jacket over a light-colored shirt and is positioned to the right side of the image. The podium is made of wood and has a laptop on it, decorated with several visible stickers. A whiteboard is mounted on the wall directly behind the speaker.
To the left, a large presentation screen is displayed. The screen shows a slide with the heading “Housing Symposium,” along with smaller text and graphic elements at the top. Under the heading, the slide includes the word “WELCOME” and additional text that reads “Tom Clagett” and “Clagett Enterprises, Inc.” The slide has a clean design with thin blue lines and small illustrations of buildings along the bottom edge.
In the foreground, the backs of several audience members’ heads are visible, indicating the speaker is addressing a seated group. A presentation is taking place inside a classroom or meeting space with light-colored walls and a grid-style ceiling with fluorescent lighting. On the left side of the image, an individual stands near a podium, facing an audience. The individual wears a dark suit jacket and light-colored shirt and appears to be speaking while gesturing toward a large screen positioned on the right side of the room. The podium in front of the speaker has a laptop with several stickers visible on its surface.
The audience is seated in rows of black chairs, with the backs of several individuals visible in the foreground. Some audience members hold notebooks or folders.
On the right side of the image, a large monitor on a rolling stand displays a slide titled “Progress So Far.” Beneath the title are bullet points discussing efforts related to affordable housing on county-owned land. A small photograph of a housing development appears in the bottom right corner of the slide. The slide includes visible text such as:
– “Partnering to build affordable housing on county-owned land”
– “Assessing and prioritizing all land for potential affordable housing development”
– “Approximately 15 units of housing affordable to households with incomes between 30 and 80% AMI”
Additional bullet points continue below.
The room’s walls feature multiple large framed portrait paintings arranged in a grid pattern. The portraits depict individuals in various seated or standing poses. A glass door near the screen leads outside, where greenery and a wooden deck are partially visible. An exit sign hangs above the door. Two individuals stand close together inside a brightly lit indoor space. They are positioned in the foreground and face the camera. The individual on the left wears a textured short‑sleeve top in a warm solid color and glasses with patterned frames. The individual on the right wears a short‑sleeve collared shirt in a bright solid color with an embroidered circular emblem on the upper left side, along with visible text beneath it that reads “County Executive Jessica Fitzwater.” Both individuals are wearing lanyards with name badges.
The background is softly blurred, showing an indoor setting with white ceiling panels and fluorescent lights. Portions of blue partition walls and indistinct shapes of furniture or people are visible behind them.

Frederick County’s showing how to deliver for students. The new Linganore Creek Elementary School will help relieve stress and overcrowding in the Oakdale community, allowing its 800+ new students to receive the world-class education they deserve, right in Oakdale.
If we don't get our schools right, everything else becomes details.

Linganore Creek will relieve significant stress and school overcrowding for the surrounding Oakdale community.

Our most important assets are the people we are here to uplift in the first place: Our young people.

As Business Appreciation Week wraps up, I enjoyed visiting Rohde & Schwarz where I saw their advanced technology and rigorous testing that support the FAA’s air traffic control network and help keep systems connected. Proud to see this kind of innovation happening right here in Frederick County!
A group of six individuals stands in a hallway with smooth light‑colored walls and a gray floor. They are positioned in a single row facing the camera. Behind them, displayed prominently on the wall, is a large graphic of a map outline of the United States filled with stars and stripes. Centered on the graphic is a diamond‑shaped logo containing the letters “RS,” and beneath it is a ribbon‑style banner that reads “45+ YEARS IN THE USA.”
The individuals are dressed in a variety of professional and semi‑professional outfits, including blazers, dresses, cardigans, and business‑casual clothing. Two people in the center hold items: one holds a red sign that reads “BAW Business Appreciation Week Frederick County, MD,” and another holds a certificate with text and a circular emblem that are partially visible. The background includes a doorway on each side of the hallway, with one open and showing part of another room containing equipment.A group of four individuals stands in a brightly lit industrial or laboratory-style hallway. The flooring is split into two colors: a wide gray walkway on the left and a bold yellow section on the right. The ceiling is composed of rectangular white panels with recessed lighting. The walls are white, with multiple doorways and large interior windows along the hallway. Through the windows, parts of another room containing equipment or machinery are visible.
One individual, positioned slightly ahead of the others, gestures with one arm extended and two fingers raised while holding a small electronic device in the other hand. Two individuals stand behind this person, and another stands to the right. These individuals are wearing a mix of professional and business‑casual attire, including long-sleeve shirts, jackets, and a dress. Some wear lanyards with identification badges. One person holds a folder, and another holds a bottle of water. Mounted on the wall behind the group are two small signs with green and red icons indicating the location of AED equipment.

We’re making it easier for Frederick County residents to see our progress toward a more resilient, sustainable future. New CEAP dashboards track projects and progress toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions 50% by 2030 and reaching net zero by 2050.
A group of eleven individuals stands side‑by‑side in a formal meeting room. They are arranged in a single row, facing the camera. Behind them, mounted on the wall, is a large circular seal reading “City of Frederick Founded 1745,” featuring stylized illustrations of historic buildings. Four flags on tall poles are positioned behind the group: the United States flag, the Maryland state flag, and two additional flags. To the left, there is a wooden doorway with trim and a red “EXIT” sign above it. The room features wooden paneling along the lower portion of the walls, with light-colored walls above.
The individuals are wearing a range of outfits, including blazers, patterned scarves, solid‑color tops, a short‑sleeve shirt with a name badge, a knee‑length dark dress, a suit jacket with a tie, and various casual or professional shirts. Clothing colors include navy, black, teal, green, gray, and patterned fabrics. Their footwear varies from dress shoes to casual shoes and sandals. Some people wear glasses. All individuals stand spaced evenly in a straight line with hands either at their sides or clasped in front. The lighting in the room is bright and even, suggesting a posed group photo taken during an official or community event inside a government meeting chamber.

Thrilled to join the Linganore Creek community for the dedication of this brand-new elementary school! In 2024, I worked with the County Council to accelerate design funding for ES #41, an 882-seat school, setting an ambitious goal to complete design, construction & occupancy in just one year!
Five people stand indoors in a row against a tan stone-textured wall. Behind them is a large rectangular plaque mounted on the wall. The plaque displays multiple lines of text, including a heading that reads “LINGANORE CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL” followed by the year “2026” and a list of roles and names associated with the school’s construction or administration. All five individuals are dressed in professional attire, including suits, jackets, dress shirts, and slacks. To the right side of the image, part of a wall-mounted display screen is visible, showing an outdoor landscape featuring rolling hills and a river. The image shows three individuals seated at a low classroom table, engaged in an arts-and-crafts activity with paper cutouts. One child on the left is focused on applying glue to a white paper shape while holding it down with one hand. Another child sits on the right, holding a small yellow drawing shaped like a face while looking toward the center of the table. An adult sits between the two children, leaning slightly forward and observing their work attentively. The table surface is covered with multiple paper pieces, crayons, a red glue stick, and printed worksheets. In the background, classroom shelves hold various organized supplies including plastic bins, books, containers, and several plush animal figures placed on top of the shelving, one resembling a lion and another resembling a white creature. A large group of people stand together in a spacious room with tall floor‑to‑ceiling windows that let in abundant natural light. The group, composed of several dozen individuals, is arranged in a wide semicircle across the center of the image. The individuals wear a mix of professional and business‑casual clothing, including jackets, dresses, slacks, patterned tops, and polo shirts. On the far left side, two people wear matching bright orange shirts.
Behind the group, bookshelves line the back wall beneath the windows, displaying a row of colorful children’s books with their covers facing outward. A cluster of metallic star balloons in blue, green, and silver is tied together near the center-left of the background. Large geometric acoustic panels in shades of blue, gray, and white hang high on the walls.
The floor is covered with a patterned commercial carpet in tones of gray and teal. In the foreground, several black stackable chairs are visible, some resting near a multicolored rug.

This year’s Frederick 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Nymeo Field brought our community together to honor the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11. Over 100 participants climbed the equivalent of 110 stories and raised +$20K for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
The image shows a large outdoor stadium with multiple sections of tiered seating. The seats are primarily blue and red, arranged in long rows surrounding a baseball field. A protective net stretches across the foreground above the field. Numerous individuals move up and down the stadium steps, some wearing dark athletic clothing and others wearing gear such as weighted vests or uniforms. In the background, several stadium buildings and concession areas are visible, featuring signs including “ROWAN,” “HOT DOGS,” and other vendor names. Tall light poles rise above the seating areas, and a row of trees lines the top edge of the stadium beyond the structures.A polished silver ceremonial bell is mounted on a wooden stand on an outdoor concourse overlooking a baseball field. The bell has a reflective surface and a decorative finial shaped like a small eagle at the top. A braided black-and-red rope is attached to the bell’s clapper handle. The wooden stand sits on square tiles in alternating shades of tan, gray, and red. Metal railings border the concourse, and beyond them the green infield and outfield of the stadium are visible. In the distance, an electronic scoreboard rises above the field, displaying team names and advertisements. The sky is bright blue with light clouds, and sunlight casts strong shadows on the tiles and the bell. The image shows a rectangular table covered with a dark cloth featuring large gold and white text that reads part of the word “PAUL” followed by partially visible smaller wording below it. Spread across the entire table surface are numerous laminated cards, each displaying a photograph and text. Many of the cards appear to include images of individuals in uniforms or professional attire, along with printed names and other small details. Metal clips are attached to the tops of the cards, and the cards are arranged in rows and clusters, covering nearly the full table. The table is set up outdoors on a light-colored concrete surface. A person wearing light-colored jeans stands near the table edge on the right side of the image, with additional items and a cardboard box visible behind the table.

I had an amazing time volunteering with the Frederick County Farm Bureau this afternoon, scooping ice cream at The Great Frederick Fair! The proceeds support scholarships, agricultural education, farm safety camps, and more that help strengthen our county's thriving agricultural community.
Three people stand behind a glass ice cream display freezer inside an indoor concession area. In the foreground, frozen tubs of ice cream in multiple colors—pink, white, beige, purple, and green—are visible through the curved frosted glass top of the freezer. Handwritten flavor labels on small pieces of colored paper are taped along the edge of the glass. One individual, wearing a striped sweater and a green apron, is leaning forward, handing a cup of ice cream across the counter. Facing them on the opposite side of the freezer are two individuals: one wearing dark outerwear and smiling while holding the cup of ice cream, and another standing slightly behind, wearing a jacket and cap. The background shows cream-colored walls, large windows with dark frames, exposed wooden ceiling beams, and an illuminated EXIT sign.An indoor ice cream counter scene shows a person wearing a striped sweater and a green apron standing behind a large glass-top freezer. Among the few counties nationwide to do so, Frederick County recognizes Green Star Service Banner Day. 💚 Families who lost a Veteran to suicide deserve to be seen, remembered, and honored. The Green Star Banner honors their loved ones’ service and sacrifice without diminishing other military honors.
Four people stand indoors in front of three large vertical banners. The center banner displays the words “Frederick County Government Maryland” along with multiple circular seal graphics. The two outer banners feature the word “BRIGHT” above partial text that is not fully visible. The individuals stand in a row, each holding an item. The person on the far left holds a rectangular black cloth printed with a green and purple star and the words “Green Star Families of America.” The second person holds a printed sheet titled “A Movement for Recognition,” containing several blocks of text and logos. The third person holds a proclamation document with multiple paragraphs of text and a circular seal near the top. The person on the right is not holding anything and stands with hands clasped. All four individuals wear different patterned or textured tops and stand close together.

Each ladder arm rises diagonally, and cables from the ladders secure the flag at its upper corners. The flag’s stripes and star field are clearly visible as it drapes downward. Below the flag, centered text reads “SEPTEMBER 11TH” in bold white letters, and beneath that, smaller text reads “REMEMBER AND HONOR.” In the lower left corner, an official circular seal for Frederick County, Maryland is displayed. The person is looking down at notes placed on the lectern. Behind the lectern, a large projection screen displays a slide titled “Voice of the Patient.” Beneath the title, the slide shows the name “Carlos Sandi, Volunteer Advocate, St. Baldrick’s Foundation.” To the right of the lectern is a long rectangular table covered with a black cloth, equipped with multiple microphones and several empty chairs arranged for panelists. The room has gray carpeting, light-colored walls, and a ceiling with recessed lighting. Four people stand behind an information table in an indoor public space with light-colored tile flooring and neutral-colored walls. The table is covered with a black cloth displaying the text “Frederick County MD Office of Economic Development” along with a bold, multicolored logo featuring curved lines in red, orange, and yellow. Congratulations to Whimsy Kids and owner Bilkis Ogbonna on their grand opening! A proudly Black woman-owned business, Whimsy Kids is a nurturing hub preparing children for kindergarten while supporting families. Their weekend drop-in also offers hardworking caregivers some well-deserved flexibility.
The image shows an indoor children’s playroom with light wood flooring and white walls. Along the right side of the room stands a set of built‑in play structures shaped like connected house façades, each with an open front and triangular rooflines. Inside these play compartments are shelves and cubbies holding various toys, including miniature vehicles, blocks, and pretend kitchen accessories. The back wall behind the structures features three vertical panels in teal, yellow, and pink.
Near the left side of the room, a whiteboard mounted on the wall displays colorful magnetic letters spelling “WHIMSY KIDS” along with decorative star-shaped magnets. Several small toys are scattered on the floor, including a red ride‑on car and a round purple ball. A person with a backpack patterned in pink tones stands near a low table where another individual, mostly out of frame, is interacting with toys. A large group of adults and children stand together outside a brick building with a storefront labeled “Whimsykids.” The awning above the windows displays colorful text and smaller decorative graphics. The windows contain printed information about hours of operation, preschool services, before and after care, weekend drop‑in programs, and birthday parties. The group is arranged in several rows: children stand in the front, some holding balloons, while adults stand behind them, filling the width of the scene. A festive arch of balloons in shades of orange, yellow, pink, and green is attached to the building on the right side, along with a large round balloon featuring a smiling face. Bushes with green leaves frame both sides of the foreground. The group stands on a paved walkway and a small area of mulch near the building.A group of five people stand together inside a brightly lit room with light‑colored walls and wooden flooring. Behind the group, white shelving units line the wall, holding a few small items such as a safety vest, a rainbow decoration, and some round toys on the lower shelves. Above the shelves, a colorful wall graphic spells out the word “Whimsy” in playful, oversized letters with decorative accents. One person on the right side of the group is holding a certificate printed with the heading “Certificate of Recognition” and an official gold seal near the bottom. Two children stand in front, one wearing a solid‑colored shirt and shorts and the other wearing a shirt with a large star graphic and dark pants. Three adults stand behind the children, dressed in business‑casual clothing. A teal balloon is visible on the floor near the shelving.
