Backyard #Astrophotography One of my favorite galaxies is M33 in Triangulum. Its wispy structure is like a beautiful starry lace doily. Under very dark skies, it is barely visible to the naked eye. So when someone asks how far you can see, answer "2.878 million light-years."

Backyard #Astrophotography Sh 2-155 is an emission/dark nebula in Cepheus. Sir Patrick Moore, having watched too many B-movies filmed at Bronson Cave in LA*, nicknamed it The Cave Nebula. * like Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Robot Monster, Invasion of the Star Creatures and even Star Trek.

Last week we make char siu pork on our grill and had a lot of leftover pork. We made roast pork fried rice two days ago and will have hot and sour soup later this week. Today was pork #ramen. We took time to appreciate its gestalt and caress the surface. Why? To express affection.

Backyard #Astrophotography Waka-waka-waka. The Pacman Nebula--NGC 281--is an emission nebula in Cassiopeia. It was discovered by astronomer EE Barnard who gave it that name because "it looked like it was gobbling up all those stars." This is most remarkable because he discovered it in 1883. ⬆️ joke

Growing up in the 1950's and 1960's this was the one I watched the most times. From 1959 on, The Wizard of Oz was broadcast on network TV--initially either CBS or NBC-- on a yearly basis. Back in the 1960's, there were no VCRs, DVRs, or streaming services, so millions watched each showing.

On January 29, 2020, as I was watching Umphrey's McGee play the Clyde Theater in Fort Wayne, I knew that SARS-CoV-2 had been reported in the US a few days before. I wondered if the virus was being spread at the show--it wasn't--and what its impact would be on attending live music events.
