When Trump says “in two weeks” or “in a few weeks,” that does not mean he has a secret brilliant plan he’s about to execute. It means he has no idea, but wants to sound like he does, while keeping attention like a TV show going “all this excitement same time next week.” We’re a decade into this.

The problem is that a lot of the news media also think like a show runner and are as interested in drama and suspense as he is.

The government *still* isn’t tracking how often immigration agents detain U.S. citizens. We are. 500+ Americans have been handcuffed, held at gunpoint or held against their will in Trump’s second term. Our tally is almost certainly an undercount. THREAD (content warning: violence) ⬇️

4/ Fernando Vasquez, an 18-year-old citizen, was on break from work when agents chased and handcuffed him, then put him in their truck. After realizing their mistake, the agents left the teen alone in the woods, with no way to get home. Then they threw his ID out of the truck.

Having just learned about this manuscript today (thanks!) and having no background in any field related to it, I nonetheless (sorry in advance) have a theory: it was created to be mysterious, an ancient arcane text of hidden knowledge, a perfect addition to a rich person’s collection (for a price).

There's a lot there, including his casual aside that Trump V US (the immunity case) was derived from "constitutional structure," but I was really struck by the opening section on "insecure originalism." Which seems to be: don't worry about sticking to your principles if you don't like the result.
Twenty-first-century originalists should shed this insecure mindset. When originalist analysis seems at first to lead to a result that makes no sense, judges should check their work. An originalist judge shouldn't cavalierly or happily embrace results that defy common sense and should be on guard against subconsciously setting a higher bar for legal arguments that yield outcomes he finds desirable as a policy matter. We must follow the law wherever it leads. That doesn't require a thumb on the scale against appealing outcomes.

The idea that the main danger is a judge unconsciously reasoning his way to a result he doesn’t like, rather than the contrary, goes against everything we understand about human nature. In fact, this Alito argument is an example of the latter.

Why do you keep putting this guy on the TV? He is unimportant and is going nowhere.

The question he got asked: Why are Trump and company saying that people are only unhappy because the awesome economy hasn’t been properly explained to them? The answer he gave: People are super happy, actually! ?????

I think a major goal should be to (in an ongoing process) determine how powerful this new tool is likely to be and make sure that its power is distributed, not concentrated in a few hands.

I recommend people read this to get a sense of the president's grave cognitive impairment. Trump is either unwilling or unable (or maybe both) to answer the questions he's actually asked, so he just rants and raves while the interviewers do their best to provide structure to his random brain firings

Total straw man. No one has been reporting anything that reflects badly on “the troops.” What Hegseth is actually upset about is factual reporting on his own and Trump’s incompetence and foolhardiness.

This is what I have been thinking recently as well. Relative wealth is a concept I’ve been using lately (no idea if it’s original with me) to understand why the richest are as interested in keeping others poor as in increasing their own wealth. It’s power, both economic and political.

Wait, so according to an official document, signed by Donald Trump and all of his favorite oligarchs, Trump is the president not of the United States, but of “the Unites States.” Seems like it’s time for him to vacate the WH and get on over to wherever that place is.
