In preschool I thought everyone was weird. In kindergarten our teacher was a former high school football coach who, while generally kind, did not know what to make of me. I wasn't the only weird child in his class, but the other ones already seemed compelled to be quiet about it.

Being trans is one of the most beautiful things that ever happened to me.

Growth is a gorgeous mystery and a gift. But it doesn’t always happen by itself. Sometimes you have to decide to grow. Sometimes you have to go toward the places where you seem most inert and tell those places: “it is time for you to grow.”

Don’t get me started but I do think being trans is a spiritual orientation and discipline. We looked at something that everyone insisted was unchangeable and we changed it. We defy a consensus that is not okay for us and we make something new. We are the Springtime that, in the middle of winter, is already coming."

Doing some thinking today about eugenics and fascism as responses to, not just causes of, mass death. Some people cope with unprocessable communal grief and horror by rationalizing unbearable mass death as necessary or desirable, and bury the horror so deep they lose compassion entirely.
