MAGA nitwits and PP's convoy clowns/AB separatist dingbats think socialism, communism and fascism are one and the same thing up in their pointy empty heads. And that 'radical socialism' and social services (social democracy) are are the same; they aren't.

I think what Fraser is saying here is that data centres are gonna happen, we will be storing Canadian's data in them, and that the current guardrails (big tech policing itself) is not going to work, and we need better guardrails than that, because essentially it is a national security matter.

It's part of the Conservative Party political agenda of privatizing EVERYTHING (including public schools and healthcare) so that the 'woke' and the 'DEI' government employees are all fired (for not being the 'right' colour and/or religion) and replaced by employees of White Jesus corporations.

I believe some steps Carney has taken are; - reducing foreign steel imports so our steel producers control our market - reducing tariff free imports to reduce cheap steel from overseas - ditto countries we have no free trade agreement with - 25% tariff on all steel imports that we do take in etc.

FranklyMyDear @frank-lee.bsky.social · 20h
Exactly. Ontario taxpayers ante up about 40% of ALL of the revenues going into Ottawa coffers for programs such as equalization; next up; Quebec taxpayers at about 24% or 25%. Alberta taxpayers ante up maybe half of that, yet by their magical calculations somehow they 'pay for' QC social programs..

Likewise, a small province

FranklyMyDear @frank-lee.bsky.social · 14/10/2026
So when Albertans yell they 'pay for Quebec's social services,' it's bullshit, they don't; instead of bawling imaginary tears about being 'ripped' off by Quebec, Albertans should be in the streets demanding such services from Danielle Smith, but nooo .. she's more interested in stupid referendums.
143
FranklyMyDear @frank-lee.bsky.social · 14/10/2026
As for Albertan criticism of Quebec, the issue isn’t really that Quebec has programs like affordable daycare and lower tuition, it's that Alberta, with GDP per capita about 40% over the national average, and maybe even better able afford such services, chooses NOT to offer them to Albertans.
133
FranklyMyDear @frank-lee.bsky.social · 14/10/2026
Also misunderstood by AB separatist nitwits, is that the inclusion of oil-rich Alberta into the calculation raised the national standard significantly. Under the old formula, Ontario was the top-performing province. Soaring oil prices for example is beyond the control of Ontario's government.
133
FranklyMyDear @frank-lee.bsky.social · 14/10/2026
Next, eligibility for equalization is based on a province falling below a national income standard; it is NOT based on how much a province spends, runs a deficit or surpluses. ie, a small province like PEI could run budgetary surpluses, yet (small tax base) be unable to meet the national standard.
132
FranklyMyDear @frank-lee.bsky.social · 14/10/2026
So NO province, NOT Alberta or any other province, sends a 'cheque' or a specific amount of money to Ottawa to be used for equalization. DOES NOT HAPPEN. Taxpayers in EVERY province have contributed to OTTAWA for equalization (and every federal program) from the day the program started.
162
FranklyMyDear @frank-lee.bsky.social · 14/10/2026
DEAR ALBERTA SEPARATION dingbats; Equalization is NOT funded by the provinces, or specifically by 'Alberta.' It's a FEDERAL program from Government of Canada’s general revenues. Ottawa collects this tax revenue IN the provinces, not FROM the provinces; a subtle difference lost on these nitwits.

If anything it is the other way around, Canada used as a dumping ground for cheap third-party overseas foreign steel, which is why we put import limits on non-U.S./non-Mexican steel.
100
FranklyMyDear @frank-lee.bsky.social · 14/10/2026
I wouldn't say Canada was ever even 'dumping steel' into the USA in the first place. Even the US Dept of Commerce (2020) said that some structural steel, supposedly 'dumped,' wasn't subsidized. And these days, Trump's stupid tariffs have reduced exports into the US considerably.

People are claiming that Elon Musk messed with Starlink in Ukraine because Trump asked him. I think a more likely reason is that Ukraine damaging Russian data centers embarrassed Elon by showing how many of his Twitter followers are nonexistent and how much traffic on Twitter is driven by bots.

Referendums are the last refuge of the despot; - loaded questions for desired responses, thus not exactly a democratic exercise; voter turnout is often poor. They allow elected representatives to avoid responsibility and can weaken constitutional protection of minorities. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Funny how 'socialism' is just fine, dandy and A-OK with these MAGA Republicans (and here in Canada with Conservative Party) thieves when it transfers wealth UP the income ladder from poor to rich - instead of down it from rich to poor - the direction it is supposed to go in a CIVILIZED democracy.

Exactly. In fact the opposite should be true. Government should never be run 'like a business.' Government is to provide services, not make a 'profit.' When biz-knobs claim govt should be 'run like a business - it's code for hacking programs, privatization, and pocketing (profiting from) public $.

Poorly educated Alberta separatist dingbats think Alberta literally cuts a cheque to Quebec and pays for that province's social programs, when IN FACT equalization comes from a combination blend from ALL Canadian tax payers. Oh, and Ontario's ante up BY FAR the most (40%) and Quebec's (25%) of it.
