Absurd that the regulations on the use of these poisons have been relaxed in recent years and with predictable results - but an opportunity for the nationalists in Wales to do the right thing. @plaidcymru.bsky.social

Help stop all developments on peat lands in Wales - sign the petition! petitions.senedd.wales/petitions/24...

Petition: Stop all developments on peatlands across Wales!
Peatlands in Wales provide important carbon storage, they store 30% of our land-based carbon. They are essential for our survival: healthy peatlands sequester more carbon than all the world's forests combined. They also provide crucial habitat for plants, animals, birds and insects, and help prevent flooding in the face of increasingly erratic weather. Peatland cannot be moved or recreated; once fragmented or destroyed it's lost.

After the driest July on record, drought has been declared across Wales. During extended heatwaves and drought, the risk of wildfires increases. Whether visiting the countryside, your local park, or a nature reserve, remember these top tips. #Wales #Drought #Wildfires #ClimateChange
Orange background with The Wildlife Trusts logo and texts that reads: Avoid parking on dry grass -If parked on dry grass, car exhausts can be hot enough to ignite the vegetation beneath them.Orange background with The Wildlife Trusts logo and texts that reads: Always take your litter home with you. Many people aren’t aware that glass bottles and jars and tin cans, if left in the sunlight, are a fire risk.Orange background with The Wildlife Trusts logo and texts that reads: Take a picnic, not a BBQ. Barbecues present a strong fire risk when the weather is so dry. Instead, pack a picnic and leave the barbecue behind.Orange background with The Wildlife Trusts logo and texts that reads: Dispose of cigarettes responsibly. Never throw cigarette ends on to the ground. Even if they are fully extinguished, they can remain hot and can easily ignite dry vegetation. Carefully discard to avoid starting an accidental fire.

It's a biodiverse Coul Links - or a golf course yet again Coul Links is a beautiful and unique wildlife habitat in the Scottish Highlands. But it's threatened once again with development. Join me in urging Scottish Ministers to say no to this damaging application. action.rspb.org.uk/page/166270/...

Highly recommend clicking through to read the prose poem. When you get to the 8th & final 'sighting' of the poem, the list of names of the named harriers, disappeared or killed between 2018 - 2025, its like an incantation with the affectingly named 'Hope' stuck jarringly in the middle. Beyond sad

There’s a nature-loving majority in this country. Those in power must listen and stop trashing our environment. There are far more of us than there are developer lobbyists. They have the millionaires. We are the millions. We need a bold campaign to get our nature back.

Not had much luck with the trail cam to-date so thought I'd try to lure in some winter thrushes with pomegranate seed. Neighbour's dog, Robin and Woodpigeon resulted. But then, entirely co-incidentally, one Woodcock and half a fox. #birdingwales #rhossilibirds

Excellent series of blogs by @raptorpersuk.bsky.social on a case that illustrates the near-impossibility of obtaining a successful prosecution for killing a 'protected' Hen Harrier. Utterly bizarre comments from the judge and a pitifully inadequate sentence but (1/2)

So, the generations that have witnessed the biggest loss of nature in their lifetimes are the least likely to vote Green. Lots of other things going on of course but nevertheless disturbing - have they simply not seen the dramatic loss of insects, birds, trees and semi-natural environments?

Great to see a Merlin on Rhossili Down this morning. Also 2 Snipe and a Wren. Lots of ice, but warm in the sunshine. Snow on the other side of the estuary for the last 2 days but none here. #birdingwales #gowerbirds @gowerbirds.bsky.social

A wonderful, discursive piece ranging from Dicken's fog in Bleak House, via a story of the campaign to save Liverpool's 'Welsh Streets' (where Eric Pickles emerges an unlikely hero) to the matter of fact: 'The easy bit is sticking up the turbines on top of the curlews'.
