Also, I can tell when they’ve exhausted their closer friend options first and those people are busy. I purposefully stay out of the social dynamics they’re in because they’re full of drama, so I’m not hurt by this, but I’m even less inclined to make plans with someone who sees me as a 2nd choice

Extremely refreshing to hear a take so similar to my own. I don’t think people have an innate sense of gender because gender roles by definition are societal expectations. Society has determined what behaviors align more closely with “female” or “male”; adherence to those standards is learned
