Pentagon shaped bowl made from dibetou. The shape (especially of the rim) is inspired by a similar bowl which I saw during a recent wood turning event. #woodworking #woodturning

This was a lengthy project: a ship on rough seas. Everything is turned on the lathe, even the sail. The water and the ship are hollowed out, which can both be used as two boxes. Bon voyage! 😊 #woodworking #woodturning

It turned out that the faceplate works very nicely for glueing together such lengthy structures. #woodworking #woodturning

Adding glue to the pieces which I saw recently.

To apply pressure, I put them into the faceplate.

Just the upper part needed some additional pressure with clamps.

I colored the lid black after considering the input from multiple people. Now the box somewhat resembles a solar eclipse when looking from top 😎 #woodworking #woodturning

Look onto the lid from below. It took me multiple layers of dye before I was satisfied with the color.

Well, it turned out that you are right. The water based stain made it look greyish, and also some fibers don't want to become black. I hope for improvements once I add hard wax oil. I may also add further layers of stain.

Top view into the bowl. Around a year ago, I tried to turn spalted beech. Back then, the surface didn't come out nicely due to bad technique, and I had to sand a lot. This one with spalted birch worked much better. Though, I may again do a similar project with spalted wood in around one year to further monitor my technique 😅

I made this bread bin during a recent woodturning course, where I had access to a larger lathe. It is made from Swiss pine. No finish is applied to preserve the characteristic smell. I wish you could smell it 😅 #woodworking #woodturning

I practiced turning a hollow form. It is made from walnut. The wall got much thinner than I had initially planned, probably around 2 millimeters at the thinnest part. The inner surface is still a bit rough, though, indicating the need for more practice ☺️ #woodworking #woodturning

The screw which fixes the indexing gear of my lathe became loose over time and disappeared somehow. I ordered a new screw. It was an interesting opportunity to learn about the inner parts of my lathe 😎 #woodturning

Some colorful experiments on the lathe using acrylic paint 🎨 #woodworking #woodturning

Painting acrylic paint on a round wooden piece before switching on the lathe. This silver coat was one of many coats I tried.

After applying too much silver paint, I got desperate and just pushed the still wet paint around.

Then, I sprayed some water while the piece was spinning.

This led to a very fine texture, which finally pleased me enough to call it a day 😅
