These little Lego knights are keeping me company at work. I will soon have 3,000 of them. I can’t control myself.

These chicken-of-the-woods #mushrooms were so healthy and happy and the BRIGHTEsT orange/yellow I’ve ever seen in the forest. I did not alter this photo: they were #glowing.

The #forest floor is rich with life. Tiny kingdoms of incredible diversity. Look at this little green patch below on the hike today #Fight to protect it! Invasive species, habitat destruction, and climate change are triple threats. Many forests will not survive. Fight to preserve the forest.

The #WoodAster wildflower has this natural bicolor centers. Yellow and rose/magenta— very sweet and pretty and everywhere in the New York forests. Reminds me of an old crochet pattern somehow? Ideas for you thread people perhaps. 🌸🧵

Lately many of the drink #straws I’m seeing are made from agave fiber… #biodegradable. This makes me very happy. Even Dunkin’ Donuts uses them now. That’s massive. Thank you #Dunkin! Best of all… they don’t taste like paper in your mouth.

Also on the trail today, a visit to the #StoneHouse. A friendly witch lives here, but she turns her house to stone when leaving for work each day. No chance to peek inside. 🧙🏿‍♀️ One of the wonders of spending time in the woods #hiking #newyork (Yes, it really is huge.)

A global scientific review has just found that 51% of migratory #bird species are experiencing population declines. Habitat destruction, #ClimateChange, and other human-caused threats are causing them to fly towards extinction. Without stronger conservation efforts, more losses are inevitable.

You found #bear poop on the trail? Cool! 💩 Step 1: check you got #BearSpray with you. Step 2: give it a poke with a stick. Q: is it fresh/warm/steamy? Oops. Turn around and *walk* back the way you came. Now :) This shit is dried out. I’m fine, usual cautions. It’s eating berries.🫐

#GhostPipe on the trail today, aka #CorpsePlant. A rare little perennial, with an almost translucent flower. When I was a kid in outdoor science camp, our camp counselor took us on hikes and told us these only grew on top of dead bodies buried in the forest. Creepy. And not true, btw. 😂 #Hiking

Just as deadly viruses spread globally beyond native habitats, so too invasive species. Ecosystems did not evolve with airplanes, trains, and global container shipments. #Humans did this. Invasive beetles arrive on wood shipments, kill whole forests; that barberry we shipped in for our yard? Death
