This is how I read too! I love to have the audio book and either the physical book or the ebook of the same book, so I can read no matter what I'm doing. I started doing that earlier this year and I've been able to read so many more books this way. Also, Sahaptin Stories sounds amazing.
Screenshot of a section of the linked article that reads "Personally, Hanson said reading helps her keep her sanity and find downtime in the midst of her chaos, no matter where she is.

"Whether that's just listening to an audiobook while I cook dinner or in the car, I listen to audiobooks," she said. "But I also carry my Kindle with me everywhere and I also always have a book. So I always have like three forms of books."

My heart briefly sank when I saw this pop up in my inbox. I thought it was going to say I was being refunded because the book wasn't happening anymore. I don't pre-order a ton of books, but I've certainly never gotten a price adjustment like this! Can't wait for the book @imanibarbarin.bsky.social!

Body of email reads: "Hi!

It was kind of shocking how quickly the smoke came on today. I went for a walk this morning and didn't think about checking the AQI. I sat outside for lunch, same thing. Then around 2:30 when I greeted my kid coming home from school, I could smell it. It went downhill fast from there.
Screenshot of the Purple Air website, showing a map of NW Oregon, with Portland in the upper right, Beaverton to the left, Oregon City to the center right, down to Aurora at the bottom. The AQI colored dots go from yellow above Portland (in the 50-60 range), turning to orange and red in Tigard and Tualatin (70-150 range) and purple in Canby and below (185-300 range). The timestamp is August 31, 2026 3:12 PM PDT.Screenshot of the Purple Air website, showing a map of NW Oregon, with Vancouver in the upper right, Beaverton to the left, Oregon City to the center right, down to Canby at the bottom. What are we doing?!?!
Screenshot from the article that reads:
"For example, Lincoln said she doesn't assign research papers anymore, despite it being a skill that most of her students want to learn.

"I can't assign that anymore because CSU administration essentially greenlit the use of Al by students with very few parameters around that use and no coherent policy," she said. "... It's like everybody's hands are tied, and I can't trust my students in the normal way that's healthy for them and healthy for me." "

Except, from this NBC article, it sounds like it still won't be accessible, because ACIP is still blocked from meeting www.nbcnews.com/health/healt...
Screenshot from linked article that reads: "Moderna said mFlusiva will be available for this fall's flu season.

Vaccines, however, are typically formally recommended by the CDC's vaccine advisory committee - called the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) – before they are used. But a federal judge has blocked the committee from convening.

Levy said mFlusiva could still be legally prescribed in the U.S. without ACIP's sign-off.

However, he said, patients most likely would not be able to get insurance coverage, as private insurers generally cover only ACIP-recommended shots, and the public distribution of the vaccine would be severely limited with no official federal guidance on whom the shots should go to. Federal programs, such as Vaccines for Children and Medicaid, also rely on ACIP's guidance.

"That is a serious concern," he said."

I hate it when they quote "experts" who mislead people into thinking the vaccine will prevent people from getting Covid. There's zero mention of high quality masks in this piece, which would actually help with prevention. Of course staying up on Covid vaccinations is important, but not for this.
Screenshot of a section of the article from the quoted Los Angeles Times piece that says:
"If you're over age 65 or are younger but at a higher risk for complications - e.g., you have diabetes, heart disease, obesity, asthma or have a weakened immune system for other reasons like cancer you can get a COVID-19 booster now," Hudson said. "This will help you avoid getting COVID-19 now during what may turn out to be another summer surge."

Senator Janeen Sollman's Push for Data Center Accountability Gains Momentum in Hillsboro

SALEM, OR - Senator Janeen Sollman (D-Hillsboro) welcomes City Council President Rob Harris's request on a time-limited pause on new standalone data center permits in Hillsboro.

"This is the right step, and it reflects the concerns shared by the community and the need for information that the Governor's office is seeking from her Data Center Advisory Committee," said Sollman. "Concerns about energy usage and infrastructure needs are why I championed the POWER Act last year. This shifts the costs away from rate payers and holds big tech accountable."

City Council President Harris affirmed that the city's direction is squarely in line with the Senator's legislative efforts: "I appreciate Senator Sollman's partnership on this critical issue for our community. She has led work to increase accountability for data centers at the state level and I look forward to continuing to work with her to find the right approach for Hillsboro."

During the Council meeting, President Harris said: "Let me be clear. To both the proponents and opponents of SB 1586, my request is in alignment with that bill's intent which was to create good paying jobs in advanced manufacturing and ban standalone data centers on newly annexed lands. I now want us to look at the land within Hillsboro and consider a time limited pause in permitting for new standalone data centers that will allow us to have clarity on new state guidelines."

Senator Sollman has been out front on data center accountability. She has called for protections stronger than a moratorium on tax breaks for data centers. A moratorium is merely a pause, and she called for a sunset i…Screenshot of the caption of the Hillsboro Herald post that reads: "This is LIKE #STOLENVALOR !!!

#Senator JaneenSollman just took Credit for her opponents, @myrnafororegon #DataCenter Moratorium petition. Holy Cow! So Hillsboro City Councilor Rob Harris suggested that the City study Myrna's and @kipperlyn_forcommunity Petiiton with 2,300 hundred signatures they launched 3 weeks ago, and now @sen.janeensollman says this is because of her?

Janeen pushed for 1700 acres of new industrial land with #DATACENTERS OF ALL SIZES ALLOWED via her SB 1586. That bill got its ass kicked by over 850 pieces of opposition. Yes! She was allowing Data Centers big time and people said #HellNo

Then she opposed Tina Kotek's bill 4084-C which DID put a Moratorium on Data Centers. JANEEN WAS THE ONLY NO VOTE! SO SHE SPECIFICALLY VOTED NO ON A DATA CENTER MORATORIUM

Now this? She takes credit for work she did not do, has not shown up on, and ahe thinks the people of Washington County are this dumb? I mean, you can not write this BS.

►Janeen, DJT CALLED, he has a spot for your post over on truth social. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER.

Even Stephen Miller can't think of stuff like this. Pam Bondi did...but look what happened to her."

ITEM FOR ACTION AT A FUTURE MEETING
K-12 MATH MATERIALS ADOPTION

SUMMARY
The K-12 math materials adoption committee was formed and charged to develop a recommendation for instructional materials for math for grades K-12, following the process outlined in the Beaverton School District adoption process in alignment with board policy IIA and administrative regulation II/IIA-AR. The committee has completed its review and has recommended Curriculum Associates' iReady for grades K-5 and Imagine Learning's Illustrative Math for grades 6-12. District administration recommends adoption of the curriculum identified by the adoption committee.

BACKGROUND

The Oregon State Board of Education adopted updated math standards in October 2021 and instructional materials in October 2022. An updated Oregon Department of Education Division 22 corrective action plan for instructional materials adoption was approved by the school board in November 2023. As part of the updated action plan, the district agreed to complete its adoption of math instructional materials for grades K-12 in the 2025-26 school year for implementation in classrooms in fall 2026.

The K-12 math materials adoption committee began meeting in September 2025 and has followed the Beaverton School District adoption process in alignment with policy IIA and administrative regulationII/IIA-AR. The committee read and discussed best math instructional practices and language-rich strategies for math instruction to support multilingual learners. They did a careful review of data, including student achievement, teacher and community input, and evaluations from classroom teachers who piloted the two finalist programs.

RECOMMENDATION
The superintendent recommends adoption of the curriculum selected for recommendation by the K-12 math materials adoption committee: Curriculum Associates' iReady for the …

Oregon State Senator Deb Patterson is the Chair of the Senate Health Care Committee. She sent this newsletter out today:
Screenshot of an emailed newsletter. In the upper left corner is a headshot photo of a middle aged white woman with light colored hair. A blue banner with white text reads "Oregon State Senator" with "News From Deb Patterson" below.
The body of the newsletter reads:
"COVID-19 Vaccine Access

Dear friends and neighbors,

Many people have contacted me with concerns about access to the COVID-19 vaccine. People who want vaccines in Oregon are struggling to get them, even if they are over 65 or have a prescription. This is a very frustrating situation, entirely caused by actions taken at the CDC, and the various interpretations around the lack of clarity surrounding access.

Some organizations, such as Kaiser, are continuing to offer COVID-19 vaccinations for all of their patients over the age of 6 months without a doctor's prescription, so it can be done. I suspect the issue is more about "will we be reimbursed" for the vaccine, and Kaiser is leaning on data that shows that vaccines save lives and hospitalizations, and will save them money in the long run, no matter what.

Pharmacies are in a different boat, as they are not insurers. The same is true for doctor's clinics.

I've contacted the Governor's office to see if she can use an Executive Order to make vaccines available to Oregonians and her office is checking whether that can be done, or if another path will work. Washington State has a different standing order, but that would need to be changed by legislative action, and our short session isn't until February. I will have a bill in the Senate Committee on Health Care, if necessary, to do that.

We hope to have much more clarity in the next few days. You can find more information here.

Kind regards,

Deb

While announcing the flag lowerings-which were ordered by President Trump-Gov. Tina Kotek commented on the honor being bestowed to Kirk, saying "This attack is inexcusable.

Violence has absolutely no place in our democracy. America is better than this."

No one is lowering flags for the children shot yesterday at a Colorado high school." An emojis of a confused face is at the end of the text.Screenshot from the article reads "Surprise, COVID-19 is back and getting a jump on the fall and winter season by infecting lots of kids across the state already, mere days after a new school year started... and just in time for the RFK Jr.'s new and worsened CDC to issue confusing and restrictive COVID vaccine protocols. CVS recently walked back their previous promise to provide vaccines to certain populations, and now requires a doctor's prescription to get the shot. At this time, no one is lowering their flags to half-staff to honor the 1,226,351 confirmed American deaths from COVID-19 so far."Screenshot from the article reads "in a nearby wooded area. Kirk is credited for helping Trump win his most recent election by turning out the youth vote, all the while spouting transphobic, homophobic, as well as racist and antisemitic rhetoric and is famously known for saying that some gun deaths are "worth it" to protect peoples' second amendment rights. Trump is (as expected) apoplectic over the shooting, and has ordered the nation's flags to be flown at half-staff. Republicans are unsurprisingly blaming Democrats, as a group, for the increase in political violence, and are far more upset about this than yesterday's Colorado school shooting-even though a clear line can be drawn between these deaths and the staunch Republican refusal to curb the distribution of guns."

Witnesses report that two crew members were even taken into custody.

No need to imagine this scenario-it happened. Frontline firefighters who are being trained and who have stood in front of raging wildfires, risking their lives to protect our communities, were suddenly treated like suspects. Among them were members of the Umatilla Tribe-Native Americans whose ancestors have lived on this land since long before the United States existed-being asked about their immigration status.

Think about that. The very people who run toward danger to save lives and homes, who represent the true indigenous roots of this country, being interrogated and detained as if they don't belong here. This is not just unacceptable-it is outrageous, shameful, and beyond belief. Our heroes deserve gratitude and respect, not handcuffs and harassment.

NO ONE IS ILLEGAL ON STOLEN LAND"

Peaceful and pleasant *for who*?
From Omar El Akkad's book, One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This:
"Of course the Republicans would be worse. What the mainstream Democrat seems incapable of accepting is that, for an even remotely functioning conscience, there exists a point beyond which relative harm can no longer offset absolute evil. For a lot of people, genocide is that point. Suddenly, an otherwise very persuasive argument takes on a different meaning: "Vote for the liberal though he harms you because the conservative will harm you more" starts to sound a lot like "Vote for the liberal though he harms you because the conservative might harm me, too."

In reality, not a single Western politician or party, not a single government anywhere in the world, can be expected to change when constantly rewarded this way. The argument in favor of voting for the lesser evil is frequently made in good faith, by people who have plenty to lose should the greater evil win. But it also establishes the lowest of benchmarks: [in italics] Want my vote? Be less monstrous than the monsters."

This CDC is actively trying to kill us.
CDC deferred questions to Maryland on a call with state animal health officials, Thompson said. "We found out via other routes and then had to go to CDC to tell us what was going on,” she said. "They weren't forthcoming at all. They turned it back over to the state to confirm anything that had happened or what had been found in this traveler."

On a sidewalk, six individual large white signs with a single letter in black font that together spells out "Free DC". A highlighter yellow sign with "no kings" is held above one of the letters.

"They didn't want to know, because then they'd have to do something,” he said. This is exactly the situation with hospital systems, schools, and every other workplace in the US with respect to COVID. It's not that contracting COVID and other viruses over and over isn't a big deal;
George Broyles, a former firefighter who became a smoke researcher for the Forest Service, remembers that era differently. He is among more than two dozen current and former Forest Service officials who told The Times that they believe the agency willfully resisted acknowledging that smoke was dangerous.

"They didn't want to know, because then they'd have to do something,” he said.

"Embracing masks would mean admitting how dangerous wildfire smoke really is. That could lead to a cascade of expensive changes." Applies perfectly to the COVID conversation too.
Internal records, studies and interviews with current and former agency officials reveal another motivation: Embracing masks would mean admitting how dangerous wildfire smoke really is.

That could lead to a cascade of expensive changes.

The agency, already underfunded and understaffed, might have to add crews to allow for more breaks, or pay for them to sleep in hotels. Recruitment for the grueling, low-paying jobs could become harder. Spending could increase on an extensive range of health issues among workers and veterans.

So much overlap in this article about respirators/masks for wildfire firefighters as there has been with respirators/masks and COVID. Of course, other countries are working to protect their people, while the US practically fights against it.
Countries with major wildfire seasons, including Canada, Australia and Greece, have begun to hand out half-face respirator masks with replaceable filters, like those worn by painters and demolition teams. In laboratory tests, they block about 99 percent of the toxic particles in smoke. Disposable N95 masks are nearly as effective.

But year after year, the Forest Service sends crews into smoke with nothing to prevent them from inhaling its poisons. The agency has fought against equipping firefighters with masks. It issues safety handbooks that make no mention of the long-term hazards of smoke exposure. And its workers are not allowed to wear masks on the front line, even if they want to.

Certifying deaths due to post-acute sequelae of COVID-19

In the acute phase, clinical manifestations and complications of COVID-19 of varying degrees have been documented, including death. However, patients who recover from the acute phase of the infection can still suffer long-term effects (8). Post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC), commonly referred to as "long COVID," refers to the long-term symptoms, signs, and complications experienced by some patients who have recovered from the acute phase of COVID-19 (8-10). Emerging evidence suggests that severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the virus that causes COVID-19, can have lasting effects on nearly every organ and organ system of the body weeks, months, and potentially years after infection (11,12). Documented serious post-COVID-19 conditions include cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurological, renal, endocrine, hematological, and gastrointestinal complications (8), as well as death (13).

prismreports.org/2022/07/21/m... You seem to be exactly the type of person Steven Thrasher wrote about in early 2022.
As soon as Biden assumed office, many establishment liberals and much of the mainstream media-who are unable to think outside of a "Democrats good, Republicans bad" binary-stopped caring about the pandemic. Also, on behalf of their corporate owners, many newsrooms actively pushed for a "return to normal." And, as I argue in my forthcoming book, regardless of which party is running the U.S. government, there are multiple ways America perpetually creates what I call a "viral underclass." But for many journalists, it was easier to view Trump as an abnormal monster who made the pandemic so bad, rather than to wrestle with how it is our American way of life that initially made the pandemic more deadly in the U.S. than in any other country on earth, and which continues to make us have the most deaths of any nation.

It was absolutely not distinctly a GOP issue. The study this article is on is talking about the 2022 CDC guidance - Biden's CDC - that lead to nearly 22,000 deaths. www.nber.org/papers/w33849
Screenshot of a portion of the referenced website which reads "spread. We use event study and difference-in-differences models that exploit <begin highlight in yellow> the removal of mask mandates in districts serving 50% of public school students in the U.S. surrounding the revocation of CDC guidance recommending school masking in February and early March of 2022 <Eve highlight>. We estimate that going from 0% to 100% mandated masking in a county reduces COVID deaths by 0.57 per 100k people. <begin yellow highlight>We further estimate that the removal of mandates during this time contributed to 21800 COVID deaths through the rest of 2022, 9% of the U.S. total that year <end highlight>. Due to the fact that COVID deaths among students and, to a lesser extent, school staff were rare in the U.S. given school age profiles, we argue that the bulk of these deaths were from spillovers to residents in the wider community."

So much of this article is true with education (and so many other areas) too, because every school (elementary through college) in Gaza has been decimated. It's yet another reason why the recent Beaverton school board investigation into Dr. Tammy Carpenter is infuriating.
Screenshot from linked article that reads: "The real issue is that the entire health care system in Gaza has been destroyed, and health care workers have been kidnapped and tortured -some have been raped to death like Dr. Adnan Al Bursh, who's a professor of orthopedic surgeon surgery in Gaza,” Marya said. "The real issue here is not whether what I said hurt the feelings of some people."

I saw that too but then it loaded soon after that. Looks like they had to backtrack some:
Screenshot of freedomflotilla.org/ffc-tracker/ which shows a red line representing the path of the Madleen, in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. Appears the ship had to turn arrive and go back some, then crossed over their original path and is currently perpendicular to their path from yesterday.

I don't know when this happened, but Rite Aid no longer has Covid vaccines on their list of available immunizations. I just got my Covid booster at Rite Aid last month. I know a number of their locations are closing, but the two closest to me are not, so I have to think this is related to the admin.
Screenshot from Rite Aid pharmacy's website with a list of the immunizations available at Rite Aid. The list includes: chickenpox, diptheria, flu, haemophilus influenzae (Hib), hepatitis-a, hepatitus-b, human papilomavirus (hpv), Japanese encephalitis, measles, meningitis, monkeypox, mumps, pneumococcal disease, polio, rubella, rsv, shingles, tetanus, typhoid, whooping cough/pertussis, and yellow fever. Covid-19 is not mentioned at all on the list.

Regretting my decision to not have coffee before my doctors appointment. I thought it'd be good to do fasting labs, even though fasting wasn't required. Seems there's a global issue with LabCorp right now 🫠
"All LabCorp PSCs are currently down. This is a Global issue. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Please come back later today or reschedule for tomorrow.

Thank You!"

The article says they've disabled the voice announcement feature until repairs can be made, so it did impact people who rely on this for safety.

City of Palo Alto spokesperson Meghan Horrigan-Taylor said that city employees determined that 12 downtown intersections were impacted and have disabled the voice announcement feature on the crosswalks until repairs can be made. The tampering may have happened on Friday, Horrigan-Taylor said.

25 hours and not one single word about Palestine or the way this administration is treating students who exercise their constitutional rights to support Palestine. Here's what Mondoweiss had to say about Cory Booker on their Instagram:
Dark purple-pink background with white text. In the upper right corner it says Mondoweiss. Centered white text down the page reads:

"Cory Booker just spoke for 25 hours straight about defending democracy.

Here's why we're not clapping.

Sen. Cory Booker spoke for over 25 hours on the Senate floor to protest Trump's agenda, invoking Hebrew scripture and adding a yellow ribbon in support of Israeli hostages.

He praised the Abraham Accords, spoke emotionally about Israel, and aligned himself with pro-Israel causes.

But while Gaza burns, Booker said nothing about Israel's genocide in Palestine. No mention of the tens of thousands Palestinians killed, aird workers, journalist, medics, etc.

No call to halt U.S. arms shipments. No recognition of international law or the ICJ's genocide ruling.

He had time to say “Hineni” (“Here I am") and honor Israeli soldiers - but not a word for Palestinian lives under siege."

In the lower right corner is an emoji of a yellow right hand with it's thumb and pointer finger extended. There is a thin curved arrow to the right of the pointer finger, and the arrow points to the left.Dark purple-pink background with mostly white text. It says Mondoweiss in the upper right corner.

In Trump's case, you'll need to substitute denial for apathy, but it's still true. Normalization of mass death is the goal and it's rooted in white supremacy. Don't let these things become normal.
Image of a white square sticker, with orange-red text that is right aligned that reads: "Genocide apathy, pandemic apathy, climate apathy all have the same root". In the lower left corner is the drawing of an orange-red poppy, with an unopened poppy to its left. The sticker is laying on top of a drawing of orange-red poppy blooms with the shape of Palestine down the center, with green olive branches throughout.

This sounds eerily similar to the Biden administration's CDC messaging on masks, as thousands were (and are) still dying and becoming disabled by COVID each week. And COVID aware people all know how that's gone (terribly, if you're not aware). I am not confident that enough doctors will stress the
Screenshot from the article that reads: ""The decision to vaccinate is a personal one,” the statement said, echoing a line from a column Kennedy wrote for the Fox News website.

"People should consult with their healthcare provider to understand their options to get a vaccine and should be informed about the potential risks and benefits associated with vaccines.""
