Now I know this is a (very) long shot but maybe catsky can help. We're trying to find someone to take in our neighbour's older cat after he has passed away. We would take her in ourselves but she just doesn't get on with our existing two cats. This is in the Nottingham area. continued...

I noticed they don't say how the arrests were distributed between the marches. Probably doesn't fit the narrative.
Both marches have now concluded, with the Metropolitan Police saying that 43 people had been arrested for offences across the two marches, as of 7.30pm.

The force also said that four officers were assaulted - none of them seriously - with a further six officers subjected to hate crime offences, while there were 22 additional arrests at the FA Cup Final.

"Sir Mark defended the officers' actions earlier, saying their use of force had been "completely reasonable" in the circumstances." So if you're ever arrested remember a reasonable use of force is: kicking you in the head when you're already incapacitated by Taser

Anyone got their cheaper bills from Great British Energy yet? I guess "up to £300" is technically accurate.
Tweet from Keir Starmer 19 June 2024:

Labour's first step to set up Great British Energy will save families up to £300 a year of their energy bills.

A vote for Labour on Thursday 4 July is a vote for change and to make you better off. Tweet from @jim45cotland 24 March 2026

Prior to the 2024 UK General Election, Labour promised that Great British Energy (GB Energy) would be headquartered in Aberdeen, Scotland and that this would create 1,000 jobs in the city
As of February 2026, the most recent available data indicates that GB Energy has created around 13-24 jobs in Scotland, with 9 permanent staff and 15 on loan as of November 2025.

Message from French engineer Pascal Maurieras, one of the crew of the Madleen, currently in an Israeli prison.
Greetings from Israeli prisons.

We were intercepted aboard the boat Madleen 110 nautical miles off the coast of Gaza-that is, in the middle of international waters. This was an act of piracy. We are used to dealing with a rogue state.

It is urgent that our European governments impose concrete sanctions on Israel: an end to arms sales, a suspension of diplomatic relations, official recognition of the Palestinian state, and a full economic and cultural boycott of the country.

The fact that Israel is now rushing to intercept boats farther and farther out in international waters shows just how deeply threatened they feel by the growing outcry against the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

A non-Labour supporting pensioner writes to Labour councillor David Sedgwick - a member of the 'Trigger Me Timbers' WhatsApp group - asking about bin collections:
Dear Mr Sedgwick, Whilst I am in no way responsible for your re-election... I thought this would be an appropriate time to contact you with regard to bin collections. My husband and I... are both 72 years old... Sedgwick puts the letter on the WhatsApp group.
Minutes later Gwynne responds with a despicable mock reply, which reads:
Dear Resident, F*** your bins. I'm re-elected and without your vote. Screw you. PS Hopefully you'll have croaked it by the all-outs.

In another exchange, Gwynne (AG) and colleagues make anti-Semitic remarks while discussing a Labour Party meeting in the MP's constituency. Bizarrely, one councillor asks if an American Jewish psychologist called Marshall Rosenberg will attend: Will Marshall Rosenberg be there as well?
AG: No. He sounds too militaristic and too Jewish. Is he in Mossad?

Earlier, Gwynne made light of anti-Semitism in an inappropriate quip:
AG: Geoffrey the Giraffe says don't be nasty to the Jews

The group also poked fun at a local resident who was campaigning for more cycle lanes. In one particularly nasty comment, Gwynne joked that he hoped he'd be knocked over by a bin lorry: 'Lost the will. That Nick is something else.'
AG: I had positive visions of him getting mown down by an Elsa Waste HGV while he's cycling to the Fallowfield Loop. We couldn't be that lucky!

On another occasion, Gwynne and others mocked veteran Labour MP Diane Abbott when she became the first black Parliamentarian to represent their party at Prime Minister's Questions: Who's ready for Diane at PMQs?
AG: Yep because it's Black history month apparently Was David Lammy not available?...I'd also take the corpse of Bernie Grant
Bernie Grant was a high-profile black Labour MP who died years earlier
AG: Or Desmond Swayne? ...Justin Trudeau?? A Tory MP who caused controversy by blackeni…

Just saving a screen shot from the other place (from 2023)
Carl Doran:
The funniest thing is, once the new Labour govt starts crashing in the polls (for delivering nothing) Starmer will be sacrificed as the cause and he'll personally face all the downside of supporting this rampant anti-democratic chicanery. Sweet consolation.

Geoff Smith:
I worry that people will see no change in their personal circumstances. We will get protests, maybe even riots. Then the new police powers will be used for a crack down & there will be a backlash leading to an even more overtly fascist Tory/Reform government.

One has to wonder how hard our MP @julietcampbellmp.bsky.social, fought to make sure the community has the resources it needs. But then she doesn't live here.
It’s an absolute disgrace that @broxtowebc has received the joint lowest budget settlement of any authority in the entire country. And Broxtowe’s MP has clearly not fought our corner.

www.theregister.com/2025/01/07/d... The joys of privatised healthcare
Whatever the incident was, it left the cyber pro with a broken neck, but he wasn't aware of this at the time. He had no symptoms other than some "manageable neck pain," and nothing out of the ordinary showed up on a routine X-ray and an MRI wasn't possible due to insurance delays.

A week later, Rogers started losing some sensation in his hands and tried to have the MRI rescheduled, but the approval from his insurance company never came. While waiting for said approval, he and his family holidayed in northern California and by the time he returned on December 30, he says he lost "about 20 percent sensation and a similar amount of mobility in both arms."Rogers said it will be around four to six weeks before he returns to basic independence and is able to travel, but a full recovery will take up to six months. He begins a course of physical therapy today, but his insurance will only cover the first of three required weeks, prompting friends to set up a fundraiser to cover the difference.

Broxtowe Independents - Who we are

Priority: Healthier, Happier, Greener Broxtowe

Local: From the Community, For the Community

Our councillors are embedded in their communities. This means our people know and care about their areas as it's their home too, and our councillors are always present & available to their residents. We also know that diversity is a strength, which is why we're proud that our councillors come from a wide range of areas, ages and backgrounds. We aim to bring people together from all walks of life united by a common vision for a better Broxtowe.

Vocal: Meaningful actions, not empty words

We know that it is people that make our communities strong. We put the needs and wants of our constituents and communities first, free from the constraints of Westminster control. Putting democracy and politics back into the hands of local people, rooted in reality. We can't promise that everyone will always be happy with every decision, but we promise to always work hard to get the best outcome for Broxtowe.

Visible: Present and available all year round

From volunteering at foodbanks to running activities for young people, from litter picks to local events, investing in leisure centres to building council homes, and our wide range of green initiatives, our members are always active in their communities. Look around at any community group, local event, local campaign and our Cilrs will be there, standing up for Broxtowe.

Our principles:

Putting social housing at the top of our agenda to ensure good quality, truly affordable homes for all.

Standing up for local communities, people & businesses. We will always act in the interest of our communities without having to be compromised by Westminster politicians.

No cuts to council jobs or services. We are a group that strongly values public services. As Cllrs, we oppose austerity cuts and we will continue to defend against any attacks on them.

Achieving carbon neutrality by 2027. We recognise the serious…
