Not really how it works for us, no. Chomsky established what is effectively a major new school of thought in the field. It’s not “fawning” to respect and cite his work, most linguists in the US and Japan (Europe to a lesser extent) do.

optometrist asked if I knew what astigmatism was and I said i’m not sure but I think it’s when part of your eye is flatter than it’s supposed to be. he’s like well, no… it’s when your eye isn’t as round as it’s supposed to be. like ok it’s your degree buddy i’m not taking it
