Hey. You may be having a bad day. But at least you’re not having as bad a day as whoever owns this boat.
A lovely little yacht, clearly someone’s pride and joy, in Dun Laoghaire harbour. I do mean ‘in’ quite literally here as the waterline is almost over the deck. She’s goin’ down, cap’n.Aaaaand she’s gone. Photo taken from RNLI team attempting recovery showing nothing but a mast sticking up out of the water, rolled over at an angle that indicates the boat has found a new home on the harbour floor.

To quote everyone else in this thread of reposts: huh.
An odd statistical analysis of sentiment and behaviour based on my post history. High numbers in a category apparently mean more machine like. A “reading” is given based on a ratio of highest and lowest stats.

Huh.

View’s not bad either.
A view from the back of one of Sydney’s fleet of fast ferries, heading west through Sydney harbour right next to Cockatoo Island. Balmain’s shoreline it’s in the foreground, with the Sydney CBD, centrepoint tower and harbour bridge all rising up behind. Looks pretty tops even on a cloudy day.

Too bad, social media; today I am busy MAKING KNIFE.
The guy at the anvil next to mine hammering a bit of red hot metal. This is fucking sick. The template I’m working to and an EN9 steel blank forged and fullered out to roughly the right shape. This is fucking sick. The anvil I’m working at with a dual burner propane slot furnace in the background. On top of the anvil are the hammer and tongs that I am using to hold red hot metal and beat it into shape with precise blows. This is immensely fucking sick!A rack of smithing hammers, chisels, blocks, forks and tongs. It should go without saying that all of this is fucking sick as shit.

Here he is being a real good sport about the whole thing. Damn.
Late radio/tv presenter and musician James Valentine sitting in the ABC 702 studios for a full upper body 3D scan in 2014. I’m on the left, doing the scanning with an Artec Eva handheld structure light scanner. He was cracking jokes the whole time - made the job harder but much more fun.

Like, this was just sitting around for a couple of afternoons playing around with it on an iPad making a figure of one of my D&D characters. Must get around to actually rigging it so I can pose the thing and print off some minis.

While I’d still prefer that we change the date, in the meantime: Happy Australia Day to Aussies far and wide.
Two slices of toast with copious amounts of butter and Vegemite and a tin of Milo sit in front of a window showing a dreary Irish winter morning.

The Dublin Bay sailing club #dbsc awards are on in the national maritime museum this evening. Pretty dramatic venue for it!
A view from the back of an audience in the national maritime museum, Dublin. The museum is a converted church, but a standing over the dais is a massive fresnel lens assembly from a lighthouse. Which looks cool as shiiiiiiiit!

Rainy Halloween morning vibe.
View across grand canal dock from a cosy coffee shop. There’s a riverboat, and gentle rain on the water. In the foreground there’s a really really good flat white and a passable flapjack.

And now I have to go to work. Boo. 👻

As ever a bloody incredible show from #Karnivool tonight, their first time playing in Dublin and my first time seeing them outside of Australia. Huge news - NEW ALBUM END OF OCTOBER! They played a couple of new tracks including one called “Ghost”.
Karnivool, a progressive metal band from Perth, Australia, play to a packed audience at the Academy in Dublin. Hands are waving in the air, lights are flashing around, Ian Kenny is doing a weird dance - classic Karnivool.

Well I guess I’m a fountain pen guy now? I blame @aftermath.site. I’m looking at you, @papapishu.bsky.social . Honestly, if this is the closest I get to a midlife crisis then I’m fine with that.
Some fountain pens and bottles of ink sit on an office desk. Specifically 2 Parker Vectors, a Hongdian M2 and a Hongdian Dark Forest with a blade nib, a bottle of Watermans Tender Violet ink and a bottle of Diamine’s Matador red ink.

It’s a hard old life for us sailors, I tell you what.
The crew of J109 Something Else floating in Dublin Bay. The weather is uncharacteristically nice and calm.

Great for a float, not so nice for racing.

And the second drive by. My god what a show of naval power. 😏
Telephoto shot of Irish Patrol boat cruising past Shtandart in Killiney Bay. Presumably the Navy crew are shouting over to ask if they’d like a cup of tea.

Decided they’d swing by for another look. Unusual start to the day, eh?
Irish naval PT boat cruises past the Shtandart, a triple masted square rigged replica of Peter the Great’s naval barque currently moored in Killiney bay, South Dublin.

Which is all most peculiar.

Sailing is good, actually.
A photo looking back along the deck of a yacht at a lovely blue sky with a few clouds. The effect is absolutely ruined by my grinning idiot mug squinting in the sunlight.Ah, much better. The view looking forward over the foredeck at a relatively flat sea, deep blue cloud-streaked sky and, most unusually for Dublin, sunshine!

Performing my civic duty as an Australian while visiting England.
My hand, flipping off cans of Fosters on a shelf in a supermarket. Fosters might charitably be described as a beer, but more accurately as a mixture of cat piss, bile and human suffering in a can.

For some reason people believe it is still an Australian beer, despite no one in Australia enduring this curse upon existence in about 30 years.

Huge congrats to #MiracleOfSound on finally making it out of the studio and onto the stage. Smashing first show at the Academy in Dublin.
A band play on a stage before an audience of hundreds, all bathed in red and yellow stage lights. A banner at the back of the stage proclaims this band to be Miracle of Sound.

For the uninitiated, Miracle of Sound is the long running solo project of Gavin Dunne, the long haired dude striding across the front of the stage, who writes songs in various styles inspired by video games, shows, movies and books. He liked like he was having a really great time. On ya, Gav.

So, Lisbon is just ridiculously lovely.
Monument in the middle of Praça do Pedro IV in Rossio, central Lisbon. There’s a beautiful blue sky and Jacaranda tree in the background.Inside the delightful interior of the Casa do Alentejo.Inside a ridiculously well stocked market/deli/providore/thing. I don’t know the appropriate word in Portuguese. There’s a bajillion amazing cheeses, many forms of chorizo, cured hams hanging from the roof and a vintage meat slicer in excellent condition. The walls are lined, floor to ceiling, with bottles of port, from standard Ruby and Tawny to super fancy vintages.

I could easily have spent thousands in here.View of Castelo do São Jorge from below in the praça da Figueira. Theres a statue of John the first, whoever that is, riding a horse in the foreground. Sweet.

Drop that Lock Screen 👀
A dumb phone background I made when I was trying out glitch art and dithering for fun. It’s all in two-tone black and white and shows a repeating pattern of comic-style round bombs with fuses; each bomb has an 8-bit stylised hand on the side that resembles a common mouse pointer icon, only instead of the index finger being extended it’s the middle finger. lol and also lmao. The pattern is overlaid on a background of an angled gradient that has been posterised, dithered and rotated.

It’s dumb but I made it and I like it.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds in Dublin this evening on the Wild God tour. Bloody amazing as always.
Nick Cave, the dark lord of Australian music, singing at the front of a stage to a full house. He’s bathed in a warm yellow light. Wise shot if the whole stage with Nick up front and the whole band banging away behind. Lights everywhere, hands waving, great stuff. A snippet of “Red Right Hand”. The percussionist had a proper set of tubular bells on stage and boy howdy was he absolutely going to town on them during this song. Magic.

Halloween is a great time to have a 3D printer on hand.
A 3D printer (specifically a Me3D Me2) almost finished printing a human skull in white plastic. It’s vaguely reminiscent of a gothic Victorian scientist’s lab.

Went for a treetop ropes and ziplining adventure day. Had an absolute ball, even though my phone maybe fell 5 metres into a bush due to some unplanned spontaneous gymnastics.
A wide angle view of a beautiful green forest glade with cable walkways and obstacles criss-crossing between tall trees.Looking up to the treetops and a few wobbly looking plank bridges across the sky above. I can confirm, they were indeed very wobbly.

Mine’ll be a whiskey sour, thanks!
A delicious Whiskey sour:
- 2 parts Teelings small batch Irish Whiskey
- 1 part fresh lemon juice
- 1 part limoncello (for an extra kick)
- 2 dashes of angostura bitters
- 1 tablespoon of simple syrup
- 1 tablespoon of agua faba
Shake over ice, strain and pour into a fancy glass over a large ice cube. If feeling fancy garnish with a peel of orange or lemon zest, or a maraschino cherry if you’re a proper 1930’s gangster.

Feeling a long way from home so since it’s #ANZAC day and all…
Melting butter, golden syrup and baking soda in a small saucepan, with a mixing bowl full of oats, flour, sugar and coconut in the background. This can mean only one thing…Delicious ANZAC biscuits! Crunchy and crumbly on the outside, just a little chewy in the middle and utterly destructive to one’s weight loss plans but they’re just so good!
