If you've suffered loss, or are a victim, and want the death penalty, I understand and have deep sympathy for you. But I'm as close as I can be without being a victim, and... it's not worth it. Life without parole still gave me my sense of justice, albeit long waited for.

It is not right. We get it wrong. We put innocent people to death. For a cleanliness ritual we as society perform to convince ourselves that we can remove that kind of societal corrosion and keep society pure. But that's deluding ourselves.

I don't know if, in a place to decide unilaterally, I could have stuck to my morality- for years I'd have gladly burned my life down to make him suffer. But his parents didn't want it, and able to step back, I am glad he didn't get the death penalty.

So... my friend was murdered by a burglar almost 30 years ago. The murderer got away with it for 20 years before DNA testing advanced enough to catch him. I cannot begin to describe the fury and hate I have for that man. And yet... I'm glad he got life without parole and not the death penalty.

This is honestly the first year I've gone with any regularity. I've seen probably half a dozen movies in the theater which is about half a dozen more than I have in the last 5 years. There's finally films in the theater I want to see.

Today I saw the new 4 hour documentary Musk, directed by Alex Gibney. There were too many times to count that a sold out theater burst out laughing at Elon Musk, something he said or did, even sometimes just how he looked. I believe that is his worst nightmare come to life.

David Quammen's essay in The New York Times today closes with this paragraph. It's both a scientific falsehood, and an incredibly dangerous narrative. If you're willing to give me five minutes of your time, I'd like to explain why.

There's also a whole divorce that happened during this that *just so happened* to take all the plaintiff's assets away after her asserting that she had plenty of assets and didn't need to post a full bond. Not a lot of relevance overall but a lot of dirty laundry.

TLDNR someone filed an absolutely frivolous lawsuit alleging plagiarism and I want to say copyright violation and spent... I want to say years intentionally avoiding providing any evidence. When it was finally provided, the judge ruled against them because of how bad the evidence was.

Well, that might explain her behavior. It doesn't explain the behavior of the lawyers who are behaving in bizarre ways and opened themselves up to trouble. Like what did they see they get out of this? Especially when they're at the point where the judge is threatening to sit in on a deposition.
