Picking a side and supporting your people is arguably more important than trying to attain some Edenic no-“AI” purity. Are you on the side of the fascists, polluters, and tech CEOs? Or are you on the side of the rest of humanity? Avoiding “AI” fabrications is a way to show whose side you’re on

For folks who had said "But AI is going to help with accessibility/#a117 so much" - apparently it is making things worse. And that's not too surprising, because it is a program that chains words together based on heuristics. That's all it is. There isn't much it's actually useful for.

AI for accessibility is broken by nature - "But the most frustrating part ... it couldn't resist adding a "Thanks for watching!" at the end of all that I was saying. ... Later, it got worse, ... adding "(Subtitles by opensubtitles.org!)"" From straye.dgirl.gay/blog/2026/ai...

AI ruined some of my most precious accessibility tools.
Defending AI in the name of accessibility is a scam.

"Think deeply." There are two pieces here: 1. Take time before speaking or taking action when confronted with a problem. 2. Think for yourself. Do not give this away - to an LLM, to an autocrat, to a cult, to another person, etc. Always keep thinking for yourself.

"You can do some good." It's frustrating to see every injustice and focus on the things we can't control, but to go too far in the other direction and ignore injustice and live only for pleasure is hollow and starves the soul. Do some good. Just a little. Whatever you can. That is enough today.

Maybe this is more obvious to me because I'm also a musician - we play music to give a performance, yes, but we also play it over and over to build our skills. The performance is not the only goal - your own learning is the deeper goal, and possibly the most valuable outcome.

When I write code, it achieves two goals: The obvious goal - the code we get that run and does a thing. The less obvious goal - my own knowledge of that code, which enables me to debug, improve, and expand it in the future.

"first world problems" - yes but this is microcosm - prices of all kinds of things are doubling. I hate that I was right when I predicted this and I also hate that I didn't plan for more than a year.

About a year ago I realized cocoa prices were rising, so I got about a year's supply of cocoa/chocolate. Red cocoa powder cost about 8$ for 8oz at that time, so 1$ per oz. My year's supply of cocoa is starting to run thin, and the price of red cocoa powder is still over 2$ per oz.

Just finished both seasons of "Restaurant to another world", and I appreciated that the chef was always putting in effort to do things to the highest quality, to learn new techniques, and to bring people joy, and that was his primary motivation rather than focusing on profit.

Extremely normal and fine for a company to put this in a public statement
21. Some cultures have produced vital advances; others remain dysfunctional and regressive. All cultures are now equal. Criticism and value judgments are forbidden. Yet this new dogma glosses over the fact that certain cultures and indeed subcultures . . . have produced wonders. Others have proven middling, and worse, regressive and harmful.

22. We must resist the shallow temptation of a vacant and hollow pluralism. We, in America and more broadly the West, have for the past half century resisted defining national cultures in the name of inclusivity. But inclusion into what?

Combo of using a standing desk and a balance board has been a game changer for me this year. I've felt myself getting stronger each day, and able to stand for longer. I dance and bounce around while working, and it boosts my energy and motivation. Highly recommend it.
