The first Grandia game is one of my all time favorite RPGs. Like, I will endlessly glaze how that game does such an amazing job at selling how the game is ultimately about a bunch of kids on an adventure.

It's been a good litmus test for me on whether someone actually holds any moral values strictly because of how not only is it incredibly easy to boycott media, but there is an infinite amount of better alternatives anywhere you look.

I would also like to add that folks likely used the internet browsers on their xboxs and PS3s as well. The Xbox literally had a keyboard accessory to make typing easier, and the PS3 could use a keyboard and mouse in some limited ways.

So in 2006 there were likely many people using the Wii to browse the internet or check the news, as it was an extreme novelty. I'm pretty sure you can trace PCs growing more common in households with the rise in Millenials entering and then exiting College in the late 2000s and early 2010s.

During the era when the Wii/PS3/360 came out most folks didn't have personal PCs. If there WAS a PC it was likely a communal one that everyone shared and probabaly was consigned to being used for schoolwork or taxes.

Idk its something about the gameplay loop that never really jives with me, like the novelty factor doesn't pull me in. Like, I think maybe the only platformer I can recall having actually beaten is maybe Gex? And thats just a consequence of it being one of the only games I owned for a while.

Theres probably a lot of famous games I've missed, but Super Mario 64 is probably the most iconic game I've never really touched. It suffers in the same way as the mainline megaman games where I just can't get myself invested in platformers.

Like, if the fear here is the devs thinking the side content is to long or meadering, then just don't include it, or just tighten up the content? I doubt anyone will be upset if the 120 hour JRPG is 90 hours.

Theres a reason this is typically a feature in NG+ environments rather than a first time playthrough, and thats because in a NG+ environment you generally have more narrow goals you intend to accomplish such as getting extra endings or knocking out alternate routes.

I am generally all for accessibility features or ways to make games less esoteric, but giving rewards for explicitly ignoring parts of the game (side content) seems largely antithetical to having those parts in the game in the first place.

And I get where that mindset comes from. If you had played on the Wii/U/3DS you got used to a certain design philosophy built around "socialization". Streetpass, MiiVerse, Swapnote, etc.
