2 first time watches here - Mr Majestyk was great fun, written by the great Elmore Leonard with Bronson on top form; the other first time watch was…less fun - Return of the Shaolin Chef (aka Magnificent Natural Fists as I’d watched it), iffy unintentionally hilarious incoherent kung fu nonsense
Recent activity on my Letterboxd account, posters of the last 4 films I’ve watched:
Golden Ninja Warrior (1987, 1 star)
The Return of the Shaolin Chef (aka Magnificent Natural Fists, 1985, 2 stars)
Rocky 2 (1979, 4 stars)
Mr Majestyk (1974, 4 stars)

Unusually for me there isn’t any utter rubbish in there…
A screenshot from Letterboxd of the last 4 films I’ve watched:
Charade (5 stars, 1963, Stanley Donen)
A Serious Man (4 and a half stars, 2009, Coen Brothers)
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (5 stars, 1969, George Roy Hill)
A Night to Remember (3 and a half stars, 1958, Roy Ward Baker)

Dun Darach on the ZX Spectrum. Had no idea what I was doing, what the story was (both partly because it was on a magazine covertape), or how a lot of the systems worked but loved just wandering around the city - it was all about the atmosphere and felt as close to an immersive location I’d get.

These all will look like “Fawlty Towers” in comparison with the staggering anti-comedy that is Tommy Wiseau’s ‘sitcom’ “The Neighbors”
The DVD cover for the Tommy Wiseau sitcom “The Neighbors” featuring a load of the ‘fun’ characters in the series. The series ‘catchphrase’ “What a Day!” Is printed at the bottom like it’s some kind of selling point or positive review.

It’s after a marvellous 1937 travel poster for Austria by Erich von Wunchsheim, subtly tweaked by one of Penguin’s in-house junior designers (Lucy Thorne) which, when you read the book, fit the mood and story beautifully (a search for hidden Nazi gold set in the Dolomites).

Maybe not my favourite but one that sprung to mind and made me buy the book, which I didn’t regret - the re-issue of Hammond Innes’ The Lonely Skier from 1947

TOEM 2. Adored the first one, got the platinum trophy on PS5 which I don’t do very often at all, and looking forward see what Something We Made do with the sequel.

“Paterson” (2016) by Jim Jarmusch, thought it’d be pretentious tosh and ended up loving it, partly because it didn’t end up being pretentious tosh. I actually wanted to spend more time with the characters as they were so simply but beautifully drawn. A lovely film

A game I was playing last night on my latest purchase, The Spectrum (a repro ZX Spectrum ‘mini’ if you like that can also be used as a real Spectrum) - Auf Wiedersehen Monty 😊 I have a tape copy of this somewhere but at work at the mo so can’t dig it out 😅
Cover art for the computer game ‘Auf Wiedersehen Monty’The first screen of ‘Auf Wiedersehen Monty’ on the ZX Spectrum. Monty Mole is in a version of Gibraltar surrounded by bizarre hazards including some kind of Loch Ness monster creature in the water to the right of him and what looks like an elephant walking back and forth with a yo-yo on a platform above him. Yes, they will kill him if he touches them.

That outfit of Marjoe Gortner’s in Starcrash (not to mention the perm) always makes me think of German goalkeeper Harald Schumacher (second picture is just prior to his assault of France’s Patrick Battiston). All Marjoe needed was a pornstar ‘tache

A stone cold classic 👍 Still remember playing for the first time and can’t believe it’s over 20 years ago 😬 Today gonna share another PS classic I’m sure I don’t have to introduce - PaRappa the Rapper on PS1! This is the Japanese release which IMO is so much cooler than the PAL one 😊

A film that takes place where you’re from.
A scene from the film Brief Encounter, filmed at Carnforth railway station in Lancashire, with a woman (Celia Johnson) leaning out of an open train window looking at a man stood by the train (Trevor Howard) while holding each other’s hand.

If you need more for the roster…
Stig of the Dump from Stig of the Dump. He’s crouched down holding some kind of cylinder-type cylinder thingReb Brown as Yor from meatheaded film shite Yor, the Hunter from the Future. Reb is topless showing his beefcakeyness holding a makeshift axe.A young woman as the titular Nymphoid Barbarian from the abysmal A Nymphoid Barbarian in Dinosaur Hell, which barely has any dinosaurs in it. We only know she’s a Nymphoid Barbarian because she tells us she is in the opening narration.Richard Kiel as Eegah, a caveman in the turgid bollocks that is Eegah!! He’s looking up at the sky at something marginally interesting.

They’re so much fun, one of my all-time favourite series. Got into them playing Yakuza 3 on PS3 after visiting Tokyo. Currently playing Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, which shouldn’t work but is really great (playing as Majima is always fun) - plus occasionally the enemies are described as ‘Assholes’ 😂
