I find it fascinating that so many estranged parents view the estrangement as an incident, not as a process. So it's forums full of Boomers going "She stopped talking to me because I said her haircut was bad! She's so UNREASONABLE!", when, in reality, they've been shitting on their kid for decades.

Wire deserves the #1 spot. Sopranos getting left off because 13 of the 86 episodes were in 1999 is silly. Anti-animation bias is sad. Unserious.

It's sad that the defense gets dragged into this mess by the offense. OU defense is tied for 4th in pts/game and 9th in total yards/game (3rd in passing yards/game). It is embarrassing to again waste a title-caliber defense on whatever it is this offense is doing.

My youngest and I saw an early screening of "Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom" last week, and it was a simple, delightful story told without a word being said. He gave it a 9.

Resident Evil was great. It really captured the framing and feelings that I had when playing the video game as a kid. I laughed more than I thought I would. The director nailed it.

I truly, deeply, sincerely do think the guy flipping burgers at McDonalds should be able to afford rent, bills, and groceries with his paycheck alone. That's kind of the whole point of having a job and I can't believe this is considered a radical position.🤷🏽‍♀️

I’ve gone to Not Your Average Joe near campus several times. I always felt good about supporting their business since they give jobs to our differently abled neighbors. If this is true, it makes me so fucking angry. Hell is not hot enough.

Happy to have Furcast Weather ready for iOS 27 on day one! I'm widgeted out. I had to make a preview gallery for testing, which contained more than 10,000 images between the different devices, widget types, weather conditions, and displayed data. Whew. More stuff in the pipeline!

Apple’s iCloud Private Relay masks your IP address/location. The Bluesky app then thinks I’m in a different state — one that requires age verification. Their solution is for me to share personal details with some third-party. Or I can share my location with their app. Or disable Private Relay. LOL.

Almost certainly, people's code has been opted into training without their permissions and in violation of their license. Maybe I'm rationalizing and maybe I am full of shit. But I also have to live in a capitalistic society that is infecting public service, meaning participate or perish.

So, ultimately, a computer trying to lead the construction of human experiences and emotions to be consumed by other humans is a poor tool for the job. And the theft of people's art to make the poorer tool is especially bad because people want to replicate the art so they can avoid paying for it.
150
Moanin’ Obukhov @fivethirds.net · 12/09/2026
Inserting a layer of computer in between means a tool ignorant of those experiences and emotions is trying to approximate it by interpretation and mathematical probabilities. A human may not be as efficient in a time sense, but they are far more efficient in conveying what others humans expect.

Moanin’ Obukhov @fivethirds.net · 12/09/2026
So ultimately, a computer leading the construction of logic that is consumed by a computer is a reasonable tool for the job. Conversely, writing and other art forms are communication from humans to other humans. They convey our shared experiences, and evoke emotions known to humans ...

To me, a coding-trained LLM is just adding another human-adjacent abstraction that takes more plain-spoken logic and converts it to the intermediate form. And, since it is based on a far more expansive set of code than my brain holds, it does a better job in creation, connections, etc ...
130
Moanin’ Obukhov @fivethirds.net · 12/09/2026
I already rely on abstractions that are functionally opaque to me. I have to write the logic in a constrained human-adjacent language. A compiler or interpreter takes that language and puts it into a form that the computer understands, and it can let me know if I've made mistakes in my construction

I've fallen on a "tool for the job" mentality. I think a goal of programming is to convey logic to a computer so that it can make calculation that would be impossible otherwise. For instance, I could solve a discretized NS equation set, but not for a billion points in space and thousands in time ...

The result of that lust was 20 years at war, crippling debt, a mass surveillance state, ICE, the direct deaths of 100s of thousands, and indirect deaths of millions. And if you dared raise concern about where we were headed, you were called un-American or worse. Spare me with this revisionist shit.

Living through anniversaries of momentous events in my life has made clear how full of shit history must be. People like this rewrite and simplify events to fit what makes them feel good in the current moment. This bond was a lust to kill brown folks, and we’re still paying the price for that lust.
