You know, reading these Nasrudin stories I felt like I knew that name from somewhere.............. It was from fucking Arcanum lmao, maybe this is a sign to replay it

“Tell me, O revered saint, what utterances have you heard from the lips of Allah?” “Only the last will be of interest to you, Highness. Allah has just whispered in my ear.” “What does He say?” “He just told me to watch what I say so that I may remain in the Paradise He has found for me.”

The Shah of Iran heard that Nasrudin, a saint, was traveling through the land. He sent his scouts to locate the blessed one and bring him to live in splendor at Court. After several months, the Shah visited Nasrudin’s luxurious apartments in the palace.

“How extraordinary it is,” mused Nasrudin, “that my circumstances have not seemed to change, but yours are dramatically altered in the space of a few minutes.”

At that moment the merchant’s musings were interrupted by the arrival of a band of robbers, who yanked him from the saddle, kicked and beat him to the ground and rode off with his cargo and mount.

And yet, we can ride together through this place, I on an Arab stallion, you scrabbling in the sand on a silly little donkey...”

Look at my silk coat with handcrafted buttons and gold thread, and the patched cloak that hangs from your bony shoulders. Here we two are: you with a few measly possessions in your moth-eaten saddlebags, I with spices that will make princes and kings weep with pleasure.

“Is it not so that God rewards riches with riches?” said the merchant to the Mulla. “Look at my ravishing riding boots made with the best leather money can buy, and your holed and tattered sandals. Look at my jeweled turban, and the rags you wear wrapped around your head.

I started out pretty AI neutral, aside from the environmental concerns, but I'm, being pushed into hating it more and more because it keeps making things I care about actively worse, and the results keep speaking for themselves in a really bad shitty way.

it's my first gig playing bass ever, and honestly the amount of confidence it's given me in my bass playing skills is really nice, I've never felt this into playing bass in a good while

I should've gotten the mushi clear by now tbh, but pesky real life has been getting in the way, I've got a really nice festival gig coming up and it's my band's first one so there's been a lot of pressure as it's imo a few of the member's first 'serious' gig

Might hop back on eschatos hard, after the mushi original clear, either that or go straight onto maniac either way #STGSummer is apparently still going for me

the other day when I streamed mushihimesama I had a really helpful chatter advise on cutbacks and I'm watching my normal eschatos clear I'm realizing how much easier some of those bullet patterns would've been if I knew then what I learned playing mushi lmao

Walking past an elegant mansion in the heart of the city of Baghdad, Nasrudin heard a party in progress inside. Enticed by the spell of roast goat, he slipped past the guards into the house, and took his place at the table. After the feast his host called for silence.

A lot of expensive proprietary software is gonna get decompiled and get free versions. You're gonna get free adobe suite, free turbotax/quickbooks, free microsoft office, free CAD, free logic/cubase. And they're not gonna be alternatives, they're going to try and function like the original

Ash @fishyash.com · 06/10/2026
idk how that pans out for software made for PC, I still assume heavily vibe coded stuff is unmaintainable and thus DOA but the implications of this are quite extreme

Looks like AI-based decomps are coming out more and more. Haven't really cared for it in gaming because it usually is done to make slop port or some vapid shit like "what if mario was in skyrim" but it's not just about games Someone did one for photoshop lol so now there's basically free photoshop

Even in the art of storytelling, the 'telling' is probably more important than the 'story'

'storytelling medium' is a normative term that reduces any art form to a mere vector for implicit true art of writing a good plot

The Dizzy news about it being Gen AI is kinda revealing a pattern... a lot of older devs were working with cutting edge technology in their heydey, they were essentially pioneers. And Gen AI is basically letting them relive that experience, they get to be pioneers again

I quoted a Nasrudin story I shared with a fairly pithy comment but even though I thought it was funny I kinda just want people to read them and take their own interpretation, or none ofc Maybe if it feels relevant I'll go into it. The one I just shared about the wrestler spoke to me viscerally lmao

Ash @fishyash.com · 05/10/2026
"That depends," replied the Mulla. "Were those other men weaker than you?" "Of course!" ranted the sportsman. "They were as feeble as flies... as insignificant as the tiniest ants!" "What victory is there in defeating a weaker man?"

Ash @fishyash.com · 05/10/2026
The diners started to cheer their host. Only Nasrudin remained silent. This infuriated the wrestler: "Are you not impressed that I have pulverized my enemies and ground into dust the best wrestlers this land has to offer?" he demanded.

Ash @fishyash.com · 05/10/2026
"Friends," he declared, "I have asked you here to celebrate by latest great victories. As you know, I have been the champion wrestler of this city for some time. But having annihilated the competition throughout the land, I am now champion of the entire country!"

New Blog Post: Why I Love Unfair Traps in Arcade Games People usually dislike hard memo traps in arcade games, or at best think they're "not that bad". I love them, though, and I think arcade games would be worse without them. Here's why: duckberet.com/blog/i-like-... (game: Violent Storm)

Nasrudin thought for a moment: "That all depends on who you are," he said at last. "If you are the king, then any time is a good time to dine. If you are a pauper, you eat when you find food."

Nasrudin was summoned by the king to advise him on medical matters. "Tell me," he asked, "at what hour is it wisest to dine?"

And that's just one thing . IMO the overall appeal of these ports is kinda tied to the appeal of PC gaming in general.
000
Ash @fishyash.com · 05/10/2026
Not necessarily, but I think PC ports have a lot of things going for them. One of the reasons I like PC ports of games in general is that they are free from the constraints of console hardware, and that's the main appeal (for me) of these recompiled PC ports too.
