And now we snuggle with our "micro dog", Bertie, reading Magnificent Makers by @doctheagrif.bsky.social . Blanket's an axolotl snuggie (my Halloween costume), which always makes be think of @rogerslabucd.bsky.social . So thankful for these amazing scientists sharing their passion. I am so lucky.

Close angle picture of a light-brown haired child's head snuggled on the left of her mom and the head of a tiny dog with light brown and white hair at the bottom in Mom's lap. A pink blanket covers all of them. Coffee table, rug and plants in a large windowsill fill the upper right portion of the picture.

Some joy for the darkness: Almost-8yo doesn't care that there's only 3/4in of sleet+snow and it's 20F, she's sledding on the almost flat driveway, dammit! And a good lesson in seeing the possibilities when things aren't perfect.

Always a treat when I can make it to the PhD defense of a HIC user. Looking forward to great science and images from Andrew Kennedy. #GlimmersOfJoy

This stuff. I cannot remember why it was disliked, just that it was decidedly Inferior. And the way it melted in your mouth generated wicked sharp edges.

Screen shot of search results showing instead of peanut butter hard candy with striped packaging. This was a classic candy for trick or treating when I was a kid.

Needed to look up something fundamental, so hit the books. Miss these titans in the field. They had very different personalities but shared dedication to microscopy access and discovery.

The book Fundamentals of Light Microscopy and Electronic Imaging suits closed on a fake wood table. The cover is glossy black with six circles that contain images of biological samples taken through the microscope.

Awww. The gray fox in our yard with a load of kits underneath. Glad we live far away.

Make that coop super secure. Our backyard foxes showed up yesterday and today we found 2 chicken feet in the yard 😬. Mom and 6 kits are all adorable.

Beauty and joyful moments can be very fleeting. But duration doesn't define value. Pause a second to really experience them if you can't pause for longer. Same flower, 24hr and a strong rain storm later. Still beautiful, but differently.

Belated public Happy Mother's Day to my mom. Her amazing home management and editorial skills were a critical (and acknowledge) part of my dad's success. They have always been both a team and their own people, in different ways. She embodies unconditional love with lots of pragmatism. I am so lucky.

To lighten your mood, here's my brother's 4.5lb dog in the bath and under normal circumstances.

A very wet tiny dog look out over the bathtub edge. The completely wet fur highlights her tiny head and giant dark eyes.

A small dog with medium long hair laying on a bed facing the camera. The front legs are white, eyes are surrounded by tan hair and ears are dark brown. She is very cute.

Like grandfather, like granddaughter ❤️❤️❤️ A microscope from Nanna and Gramps and drawing supplies from Uncle, Aunt and cousins = the newly 6yo recording what she sees. My heart exploded.

A small livingroom scene with a small child in purple leopard and tall sweatpants sitting in the middle of a maroon floral area rug, bent over a small microscope with her light brown hair falling to the floor, blocking her face. She is holding a pencil that is pissed over a sketch pad. In the front left corner is a grandfather in a long sleeve t-shirt and grey line pants sitting in a chair looking away from the camera, watching his granddaughter.

Small parrot! Lots of the fun, a lot less of the mess. My Meyer's parrot is super interactive but most quiet and doesn't smell at all (I'm super sensitive to smells). Senegal's are closely related and similarly tempered.

Long weekend getaway in Blowing Rock, NC with the hubs and our 5.5yo has been perfect. Tweetsie Railroad on Saturday, Grandfather Mountain on Sunday, lots of time at the amazing playground in town to start and end the day. Lots to do with minimal planning and tasty food. I'm so lucky.

Lucky so far! Glad I decided to park next to the heavily wooded area.

Water beads on thick plastic sheeting that is stayed over an open car sunroof. Several fridge magnets hold the sheeting to the roof on the right.
