So happy to share our latest review on how post-translational modifications of SQSTM1, including S-acylation, regulate autophagy in neurodegeneration. www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

Molecular switches of SQSTM1: the impact of post-translational modifications on autophagy and neurodegeneration
SQSTM1/p62 (sequestosome 1) is an important receptor protein involved in many cellular signaling processes, including macroautophagy/autophagy. It is a molecular hub for cellular homeostasis and ce...

SAPPTree: Identification of an S-Acylation Motif Drives a Novel S-Acylation Prediction Program
S-acylation, the reversible addition of fatty acids to proteins, has emerged as an abundant post-translational modification that drives protein localization and function. With no known consensus seque...

What an incredible turnout for @alscanada.bsky.social #WalkToEndALS at @uwaterloo.ca! 250-300 people came to raise funds & awareness for ALS. We hit our target & then some! Thank you to everyone who came out & @waterloosci for all your support! alscanadawalktoendals.als.ca/ontario2026/...
Group photo of the NeurdyPhagy Lab and family standing outside. A goofy looking ginger (me) is taking a selfie with everyone in the background). Everyone is wearing tshirts with the Walk to End ALS logos. Also, my beautiful chunky bulldog Ruby is staring up at me lovingly.

Very excited to share our preprint showing S-acylation (aka Palmitoylation) of TDP-43, VCP, SQSTM1, FUS & C9Orf72 in Huntington Disease (HD), Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), & Multisystem Proteinopathy (MSP). This tour de force was led by @firyalrphd.bsky.social! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

I defended my PhD 10 years ago today. That was the least remarkable thing that happened that day. Sharing something I wrote about it last year. Since then "the horrors persist but so do we." And with dignity.

Thrilled to share our recent review in @sfnjournals.bsky.social ALS and Huntington Disease: Unraveling the Connections between TDP-43 and Huntingtin. Here we discuss links between HD & ALS. Review & cover art come from the multitalented MSc student @cailyncreative.bsky.social tinyurl.com/57y6hjrd
Screenshot from the JNeursci Webpage showing the cover art.

This artwork portrays a fictional person with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Framing their face is a network of neurons that highlights two motor neurons. One neuron extending from the mouth down to the hands symbolizes two of the major motor functions affected by ALS: bulbar and spinal. The second neuron forms from a single tear that represents the fear those with the disease endure. As this neuron extends to the hands, the connection is severed, symbolizing both the disconnect between the brain and muscles caused by neuron death and the determination of those affected not to be defined by their disease. The bound hands emphasize the physical constraints imposed by ALS while the distance between the hands conveys perseverance. Among the wildflowers shown is the blue cornflower, an emblematic symbol of ALS representing hope and resilience. See the review article by Cailyn Perry and Dale Martin for information on mechanistic links between ALS and Huntington's disease. Cover image: Cailyn Perry.
