You know, there's very little difference between the drabness of the colours on a miserable wet day in Walsall and a miserable wet day in Crete #RainyDays

Getting wary of doing Likes. Days ago didn't a lady post a photo of her birthday glass of stout, which I Liked. Now, every few posts. I'm shown glasses of beer. It was the sentiment I Liked, not the photo per se. And with no memory of Liking a train, why am I suddenly inundated with the beggars?

First time I was freaked by technology was driving home on a packed 4-lane stretch of the M6 and the radio suddenly said, "Phone battery low" Me. "Listen up. You're a car. Just focus on the engine, the wheels and stuff. I'm perfectly capable of knowing when the phone needs charging."

Watching highlights of Birmingham City v Bristol City, the commentator said Bristol’s Scott Twine had been brought in after their bad start to the season. And you know deep down he was itching to say Twine should help Bristol string a few passes together. #BirminghamCityFC #BristolCityFC

As if further evidence were needed, proof that no view on a Greek island is complete without electricity wires. The village of Machairoi in the Apokoronas area of #Chania prefecture on #Crete, with the White Mountains behind. The church on the cliff face is dedicated to St John the Hermit.

No better way to mark June 1st than walking a forest path in western #Crete

Saw this on a walk between showers yesterday. A bit of Cretan rationale. Why surface a track with asphalt or stones when daisies have done the job for you?

Received a your-on-the-shortlist-of-ten email from the Anthology magazine short story competition today. Gulp. Result due this Sunday 25th. Double gulp. Calm? Yeah, course. Just need plenty of distraction between now and then. #amwriting #amsubmitting

The view from the house this sunny afternoon makes up for the cold and two days of rain. A snowy Psiloritis, the highest peak on Crete. The foreground building is a workshop making traditional Greek chairs, carefully designed to be too uncomfortable for a whole evening in a taverna. #crete

This is Rupert. Found in the street five weeks ago with a broken jaw and starving. Taken to the wonderful Cats Pyjamas rescue charity, now fostering with us till big enough to travel to his adopter. There's kittens and kittens. Cute doesn't even begin to describe this one. #kittens

17th & final story of my first (and last) short story collection. Enjoying the challenge. There's one common character (sometimes just a mention) called Michael. For 2 years I've been typing Michale. Even at this late stage, I'm tempted to rename him Bob. #amwriting #amsubmitting

A rare and wonderful thing, when a TV adaptation matches the joy of reading the book. Having a narrator works so well. Leonard & Hungry Paul on BBC iPlayer - check it out. Author: @ronanhession.bsky.social Publisher: @ofmooseandmen.bsky.social

Clotilde sitting next to me. 8 years old and epileptic. She's had a tough week. Hates car travel and had a trip to the vet on Thursday, 30 mins each way. Several teeth removed. Ouch. Chilling nicely now. #Caturday

Hey. A top 5 placing in the Gemini magazine short story competition. Not quite Fiontan Conquers America, but it still feels pretty cool #amwriting #amsubmitting

Sweltering weather, but couldn't take another day without a walk. Two shots of the old donkey track between Paidohori and Macheroi in the Apokoronas region of Crete. Still open for use, and still the shortest route between the two villages. #crete #apokoronas

With the tourist beaches only minutes away, this is the perfect Cretan walk through the shade of a cypress forest on the foothills of the White Mountains. #crete #apokoronas

My daughter, a marketing manager, says moving from Twittermusk has reduced my reach. I explained it has also reduced my urge to retch.

I lost it with WHSmith whenever it was they tried to cash in on the games console market. Was it early 90s? They could never decide what type of shop they were. Then I noticed that whichever branch I was in, one of the tills was out of order.

A beautiful time of year in Crete. The red are wild anemone, the band of yellow behind is wild mustard, and the purpley violet ones amongst the red are flowers. I know. Further research required. #Crete

Has anyone else discovered Yogi teas from Georgia? (The country, not the US state) There's something uplifting on the tag of every bag. Yesterday's was 'Contentment is oneness with the infinity.' Can't work out why I get such a buzz from the definite article in that.

Cop a load of these two beauties, courtesy of Ioanna at the local nail bar. No more broken banjo-picking nail problems for at least a month. Utter peace of mind. Cool or what? #banjo #clawhammer

Been working on 'Save the last dance for me' arranged for old time 5 string banjo. I'm left thinking it might even work. Perhaps I'll be brave enough to try it out on the punters by May #banjo #funwithbanjos

Crete's been cold and damp the last two weeks, but today, the first day of spring, it's putting on a show. Georgioupoli beach, Apokoronas. It's grand when the tourists are there, but maybe more special when they're not #Crete

Been thinking I should leave the black X for weeks. The sight of the little fella waving the giant chainsaw like some crazed eejit on the news this morning has done it for me. You'd think with all the money he could afford psychiatric help. Ah well.
