You know, there's very little difference between the drabness of the colours on a miserable wet day in Walsall and a miserable wet day in Crete #RainyDays
A view over damp olive groves and dark cloudy skies on a wet autumn day in Crete

Nice one Ronan. Could anything ever be any cooler?

Yes, I've seen them all (age 72), but never been moved in quite the same way. I've been writing fiction for the last few years, stories about ordinary people facing unwanted change and challenges. Might be to do with that.

The amount I was moved by the first part of 70Up surprised me. Not sure why. Maybe something about seeing the ageing process compressed like that. Rivetting viewing.

Maybe look at bringing in Bristol City player Scott Twine. After a poor start he's helped them string some passes together

Would that be Yosemite? If so, give my regards to Sam. Would be interested to know how the brews compare to Hebden Bridge

I'd repost examples of both to show what I mean, but it would probably make things worse

Getting wary of doing Likes. Days ago didn't a lady post a photo of her birthday glass of stout, which I Liked. Now, every few posts. I'm shown glasses of beer. It was the sentiment I Liked, not the photo per se. And with no memory of Liking a train, why am I suddenly inundated with the beggars?

First time I was freaked by technology was driving home on a packed 4-lane stretch of the M6 and the radio suddenly said, "Phone battery low" Me. "Listen up. You're a car. Just focus on the engine, the wheels and stuff. I'm perfectly capable of knowing when the phone needs charging."

You didn't mention the "at home" element. Altogether too much, I imagine

One of my favourite lyrics from Backwoods Barbie 2008: I'm just a Backwoods Barbie in a push-up bra and heels I might look artificial, but where it counts I'm real Simple, but it gets you

Watching highlights of Birmingham City v Bristol City, the commentator said Bristol’s Scott Twine had been brought in after their bad start to the season. And you know deep down he was itching to say Twine should help Bristol string a few passes together. #BirminghamCityFC #BristolCityFC

You make a good point, but I don't think your theory will ever hold water

Strange coincidence. Had an idea today (seriously, today) for a story about an old guy confused by the controversy about dressers telling his daughter there was none of that when he got his Welsh dresser in the 60s.

Interesting. I had a shamrock painted on my two banjo-picking nails in May. Looked great, I thought, until folk asked why I had heads of broccoli on my nails. Next visit to the nail bar, I asked for something more identifiable.
Painting of tied quavers on a middle fingernail, and a single quaver on the first finger. Cool or what?

I was walking alone in Crete. Never thought of filming it. Anyway, couldn't have. It took both hands, one on each horn

Found a goat with its head stuck in a fence while walking a mountain last week. Blood where wire had been rubbing its throat. Took 10 minutes manhandle its horns to get the head at the right angle, then off it ran. Not a word of thanks. Never phoned, never wrote. Gotta love goats though.

Had a similar day years ago with a trip to Sherkin island. Spent an hour trying to find a beach before giving up when realising the pub was easier to find

Went to the seafood festival in Baltimore about 20 years ago. Free small plate of seafood with every pint of Guinness. Happy memories, topped by a performance from a Scottish girls' traditional fiddle band. Hope your day went well

Apart from the height of the guy, and the trousers which are looser than my jeans, this could be me on one of many beach walks. No better place to be alone and think, or not think.

Snoozeday. It tends to come round more than once a week. Nothing wrong with it. In the Cretan village where I spend a lot of time, you get talked about if you're seen out walking between 3 and 5 in the afternoon.

Love this painting. I mean, that riverbank is so overgrown. Brilliant. About 30 years after seeing it for the first time, I noticed the robin on the left, north-west. It's the first thing I look for now.

I've had to look up kishotenketsu. Wow. Probably explains why I've had stories rejected by lit mags for beginning with characters and settling and not action/conflict I.e. no instant hook. Editors looking for Western structure.

As if further evidence were needed, proof that no view on a Greek island is complete without electricity wires. The village of Machairoi in the Apokoronas area of #Chania prefecture on #Crete, with the White Mountains behind. The church on the cliff face is dedicated to St John the Hermit.

Walk of life. Top track for the intro alone, the way it builds. As memorable unmistakable intros go, it's up there with Singing in the rain, Simon Smith and the amazing dancing bear, A hard day's night (a single chord - genius), Ticket to ride ... etc

Saw this on a walk between showers yesterday. A bit of Cretan rationale. Why surface a track with asphalt or stones when daisies have done the job for you?

Great stat. My only trivia about York (as a Walsall fan) is from 1988. After promotion to Div 2 we were struggling to get goals, and the big announcement mid-season was the signing of Dale Banton from York, a proven goal scorer. The poor guy didn't have a sniff. Never scored. We finished bottom.

Yay. I play a set of tunes on whistle which ends with Willie Clancy's jig, a seriously full-on jig. I'd no idea the man had a statue. Great to see it. Thanks for posting. Where is it?

The view from the house this sunny afternoon makes up for the cold and two days of rain. A snowy Psiloritis, the highest peak on Crete. The foreground building is a workshop making traditional Greek chairs, carefully designed to be too uncomfortable for a whole evening in a taverna. #crete
