Catching up with last week's @marcrileydj.bsky.social and @gidcoe.bsky.social programmes on 6Music. Blimey, @arabstrap.scot Be a Man stopped me in my tracks. Just about to send our youngest off to uni, so probably particularly poignant. New album's gonna be ace! open.spotify.com/album/7oBM3G...

Great to see @andywightman.scot turning his attention to this situation. Land ownership in Scotland really is stuck in the 19th Century.

Great trip across to Sutherland for a walk up Ben Loyal with the eldest today. Not sure her mother's 20 year old boots fared so well though. Temporary cable tie repair got us home but fully fell apart 10 metres from the car. Lucky, as she's getting a bit big for piggy backs! #hillwalking #scotland

In accordance with ancient tradition, our next Prime Minister is announced to the nation while standing between a furry and a man with a bin on his head.
A victorious Andy Burnham MP (24,937 votes), as the result of the Makerfield by-election is announced, flanked by defeated candidates Count Binface (a bloke in a vaguely sci-fi costume with a large bin for a helmet; 95 votes) and Robert Pownall (who is in a full body fox costume, holding a sign reading "Protect British Wildlife"; 18 votes). There are some other candidates there just out of shot but that's not important right now.

After Euro ultimatum in Kyiv today, Putin's going to do a surprise video address at midnight Moscow time (in 45 mins). Is he going to agree to ceasefire? Would be big surprise for him to cave under ultimatum... Double down? Go on a random history rant? Feels quite unpredictable.

Dragged the eldest over to Hoy for the day. Weather wasn't quite what was forecast with near constant clag and a biting wind, so we cut the route shorter than planned. She never complained once 😊 #hillwalking #Scotland #Hoy #Orkney

Today, in Orkney, we fought over a log through the streets of Stromness (we don't have many trees here, to be fair). Tomorrow we'll do battle over a small leather ball in the streets and lanes of Kirkwall. We do things differently here 😜 Have a great Hogmanay, whatever you're up to.
