When people call apartments “communist” I feel it’s hyperbolic, but until now I thought it was at least original. A fascinating clip in this episode of @mattbevan.bsky.social’s Black Swans series reveals (to me, you probably knew) that the ¼-acre block was thought to attract… youtu.be/qr7oj5_o5x8

The ‘Plants as Factories’ and ‘Re-designing Biology’ panels at #MadeAndGrown2025 offered insights… and hope! Australia entered synthetic biology a little late, but is accelerating hard. We have the talent — the sector needs support and coordination to flourish.

Eye-opening session at #MadeAndGrown2025! Precision fermentation isn’t just for the familiar dairy products on our supermarket shelves… All G Foods is using this technology to produce lactoferrin, a high-value protein found in milk at concentrations below 0.1%, and used in infant formula.

Australian states & territories, apart from Victoria & Western Australia, still allow the logging of our native forests – putting our climate and biodiversity at great risk. We’ve got to send a clear message that Australians want to see this come to an end. act.weplanet.org/end-native-f...

Farming is a tough job & it's only getting tougher as our climate changes. But what if there was a better way to feed 10 billion people, one that didn't involve hardship, slaughtering animals or wrecking the environment? There is, as @georgemonbiot.bsky.social explains.

"When we speak about our energy, we have to produce our own energy, more renewables, more nuclear, more efficiency," said EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Her comments signal a welcome shift toward a more inclusive clean energy policy across the EU.
