Denmark, particularly in Copenhagen, has installed floating platforms/islands planted with wildflowers and native vegetation in its harbors and canals. These create safe urban habitats and sanctuaries for birds, bees, pollinators, insects, and even some aquatic life. Original post

Happy #BogDay! 🥳 Today is all about brilliant bogs, super swamps, fantastic fens and marvellous marshes! Did you know that bogs cover just 3% of the world's surface but studies have found they hold nearly 30% of soil carbon! #InternationalBogDay #Carbon #Peat
The view looking out across a network of pools and bog towards the sun set. The sun is shining bright orange and giving the few clouds an orange undertone.

Little Grebes try to nest on irrigation ponds near here. Unfortunately when water’s pumped out nests are damaged + chicks abandoned. This chick was lucky. Of course if farms didn’t build reservoirs there would be no habitat in our area for grebes at all! Overall a plus for biodiversity…

The tree tops are full of winter thrushes at the moment - mostly fieldfares like these in this part of #Fife this year, redwings not so much. Blackbirds are favouring the open grass areas in the local parks and gardens, and song thrushes seem to prefer reedy ditches #winter #birding
