When watching shading tutorials, this is what usually clues me in that they're working intuitively rather than technically. It's not wrong, but implies they don't know about connector types. Ignore the particular nodes. A single value (black & white gradient) is being used as a 3D coordinate.

A Noise Texture's Fac (factor / float / greyscale) output is feeding a Checker Texture's Vector Input (position / 3D). The effect will be difficult to predict.

Glad you asked! It's one of the core things I've worked on since I started with procedural graphics. My method centers on what I usually call the TimeFactor, which spits out a 0-1 value from the first to last frame of the animation.

If you want to learn and improve with Geometry Nodes, this is the important thing no one is telling you about — Data Types. When slapping noodles around to connect nodes, what on Earth is moving around inside them? As a non (now beginning) programmer, this is THE question that will hold you back.

Near the end of my morning walk, I encountered a turkey vulture standing nearby, wings outstretched in the sun. As I approached, it flew off and curled back around, taking a perch on the fence a little further down the trail. It again took leave as I approached, settling finally atop a house.

Many times, my short spontaneous tutorials are quiet responses to tutorials I've just watched whose explanations didn't meet my standards.

Not many folks really know, but there are a variety of Inputs besides those found on the Texture Coordinate node, and here I switch to the Position input on the Geometry node, which gives us raw coordinates in world space. That can be handy in a lot of cases.
