Once ubiquitous among Coast Salish communities, woolly dogs went extinct in the late 1800s. The only known pelt is now on display at the Museum of Anthropology in Coast Salish territory, more than two decades after it was discovered in a drawer at the Smithsonian.

After 167 years, this Salish woolly dog pelt has returned to B.C.
The Coast and Interior Salish dogs were carefully bred for thousands of years, then they went extinct. The only known pelt is in Vancouver until next August
