Just spoke on RTL (at Dutch stock market which was fun!). The EU have much more macro policy space to react than the US: Fed cannot cut rates into stagflation spiral, ECB can w deflationary pressures. Germany has fiscal space. If NL, Scandis join in demand blow manageable unless we hit GFC 2.0.

DUI verkiezingsupdate in 2 plaatjes: Op het ene de inhaalrace van scholz richting Merz met habeck als lachende derde. Nu het over vrede in Oekraïne gaat kan Merz het niet over de economie hebben. Op het andere een plusje voor de SPD maar nog steeds de straatlengte voorsprong van het CDU.

“Das Verbrenneraus soll gekippt werden”… Hab dies nie so richtig verstanden. Natürlich werden ganze Teile der Welt noch lange nach 2035 Verbrennungsmotoren nutzen. Aber ist es deshalb wirklich eine gute Idee, die Zielpfoste zu verschieben die jetzt eine klare Richtung geben?

Elf jaar geleden werkte ik op de ambassade in #Vilnius. Een prachtig land met prachtige mensen: ik heb er nog altijd veel vrienden. Wellicht wat zwaar op de hand wat betreft de Russische dreiging vonden we toen. Vandaag landde er bij één van hen bijna een vliegtuig in de achtertuin.
