Five stress spirals in various stages of completeness. Bottom one is finished. The two above it are mostly done. The one at the top is currently active project. The small one to its right is just a baby, will grow in due time.

This plain little mug warmer has sat on my desk since someone gave it to me as a Secret Santa gift roughly 25 years ago. Apparently my goof with the pad of paper overheated it to the point that the plastic casing cracked, making the hot plate collapse inward. No longer safe to use, its time is done.

A few days ago, I noted my mother‘s 89th birthday with relief. I would not want her to be living through this era at that advanced age. But it made me hyper aware that my aunt, my mother‘s younger sister, is still on this planet in an era that is deeply unfriendly to older adults and to women.

Oliver is snoozing quietly at my feet. The bed-shaking purr is over so I guess he’s genuinely asleep. Meanwhile Holly has her big nose in the middle of my back so I get a hot wind when she breathes out and a cool breeze when she breathes in. And she’s snoring. So I guess Ollie is staying.

So my husband is up at the cottage for the week. Doing some maintenance. Taking a little time away from the day-to-day. He took his dog Bert and his puppy Tuck with him. The first night they were gone, my Great Dane had a mini meltdown. Just lay on the bed whimpering. Not whining, whimpering.
