Paintings by Iranian artist Golnaz Afraz, 2020s.

Painting in a slightly loose, gestural style, showing two figures standing within branches and flowers with a yellow field and still water behind them. One figure wears a striped tank top, blue bathing cap, and goggles, the other wears a red shirt and blue gloves and holds up a small mirror.

One figure has blue hair and wears large sunglasses and a white shirt, holding an orange; the other stands behind them with eyes closed and a pink flower in their mouth.

The armored 'underbelly' follows similar evolutionary path, broadening of the "belly bones", the 'gastralia' & losing attachment points for muscles on the exterior. Apologies for the nightmare fuel, but Satoshi Kawasaki created a good analogy to understand analogous structures in humans.

Satoshi Kawasaki made a nightmare-fuel infographic that shows what humans would look like if they had the same skeletal structure as humans. A series of diagrams and writing in Kanji (?) show a very weird human with giant fused rib-cage.

Dianne Jackson mastered the art of turning illustrations into animation. She did it in her film The Snowman, in the Peter Rabbit series and more. Millions know Jackson's work, but few know about her. Our new issue tells the story of this great artist: animationobsessive.substack.com/p/the-unsung...
