i came across some discourse recently criticizing the trend over time towards shorter and shorter sentences across all forms of writing. i recently did some copy editing for an academic text written by a person whose career peaked in the 70s, in which i had to cut down and rearrange a *lot* of […]

@FritzAdalis i put the SPF on the subdomain to authenticate nextcloud's automatic emails which it sends from its own subdomain (might not be strictly necessary if i had SPF on the org domain already, but whatevs) putting a TXT on nextcloud.mydomain.tld stopped it from resolving via the * […]

i learned something new by breaking something. it turns out wildcard A and AAAA domains (*.mydomain.tld) ONLY resolve for subdomains where there are no other records (none at all) on that subdomain. i had my nextcloud on a subdomain (let's say nextcloud.mydomain.tld) and it worked fine with […]

i was thinking about whether a modular synth could be a pet. but those can be switched off and left to their own devices (still need occasional maintenance, but for me it's more of a tool than a pet). but servers are always running, they need to be updated, and checked on to see if they have […]

unpopular opinion: i think i kind of love email? i do not have the problem where the inbox is very full of unread messages though. that would stress me out. i mark things as read and archive them on an ongoing basis. email is bad at being a substitute for chat, but it's great as an asynchronous […]

i learned even more about email today. if you set your rua for dmarc reports to an email address at a domain different from the one you're editing dns for, you need to put a corresponding "_report" record on the domain of the rua email address. makes sense i guess, but it never occurred to me […]

the rss reader i use for "news" (vore.website) has been down for a few days. this has been excellent for my mental health. the reader i use for following actual humans' websites (miniflux) continues to function just fine. i like to use miniflux for that purpose since it tracks read status; vore […]
