Fade Eadeh, Ph.D. @feadeh.bsky.social · 03/04/2026Take home message: People don't directly dislike gender role violators, but it's dependent on judgments of the targets' sexual orientation and participants' level of political conservatism. 000
Fade Eadeh, Ph.D. @feadeh.bsky.social · 03/04/2026In addition, they were likely to use such stereotypes to drive dislike. Importantly, these findings tended to be more likely for male targets possessing feminine traits (vs. those possessing masculine traits. 110
Fade Eadeh, Ph.D. @feadeh.bsky.social · 03/04/2026Across three studies , we found minimal to no evidence of the direct effect (gender violation-->dislike), consistent evidence of our indirect hypothesis, with (c) these indirect effects driven by levels of right-wing authoritarianism. People high in RWA were more likely to stereotype the target. 100
Fade Eadeh, Ph.D. @feadeh.bsky.social · 03/04/2026A third possibility, hypothesis 3, is that political orientation, specifically right-wing authoritarianism, would drive some of these results. 110
Fade Eadeh, Ph.D. @feadeh.bsky.social · 03/04/2026In our paper, we wondered why people reported disliking gender role violators, people expressing non-stereotypic gender attributes (masculine women, feminine men). According to classic theory on gender backlash, we would expect people to dislike individuals who possess gender-nonconforming behavior. 110
