“The Red Woman hushed, talon to mouth, lips stirring swift—a whisked smuggish smile, “Shush, my child, have not a peep, lest the pastries be soured—in the quiet retreat.” A deep beast moaned, dour in defeat, as the floorboards fizzed fires, licks of emerald from the labyrinthine beneath.”

Below its derelict catacombs, in a lush, candy-coated labyrinth, spilling with animated toys and peppermint, pretzel-legged arachnids, Noemi, a mystical baking Witch, batches pastries and treats for 42 child-snatching goblins. In tenuous unity, they toil down deep, creeping the bowls of the walking city Amblebread.

The Illustration

On a path entombed by emerald magic, in a theatrical, deceptive manoeuvre, Noemi guides a throng of goblin-lured children to the Amblebread Creature’s core, a walking beast of cosmic terror—their city’s guard, its guise against the Ourobim, a pestilence storied to chase the Amblebread city on the back of its creature before time remembered.

I started to and have been meaning to finish the series in audiobook format.🥰 My local library has the entire set last I checked: its atmospheric writing was breathtaking from my memory. I can imagine loving to do cover art for romance fantasy series beyond my own like this. Thank you, Justin!💖

That’s awesome! I played a lot of rpgs/mmorpgs in the past from Skyrim to Guild Wars & Dragon Age. The more storytelling decisions to be made the better! Kenshi does sound a bit different than this though—I think I read it was a sandbox game the other day—impressive that it was made by one person!🤩

Part 1: These pieces are incredible!😍 I love the movement and articulate, yet soft background work in “Nymphs and Satyr” and Caravaggio’s chiaroscuro has always been an inspiration. I read he had quite the tumultuous life. Some of his pieces were used as album covers for E.S. Posthumous.

I had the same concerns, but then gave it a try & utterly surprised myself. It feels like watching a split screen in my mind—part is visualizing the book, while the other is present and painting physically. I loved anything behind the scenes from Lord of the Rings films & their musical scores too!🎶
