Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 6hAnd if one wants to be a manager, they should be a manager. At least people who implement those high-level ideas end up learning from the experience, with an LLM that goes to waste completely. Taking the human out of the equation is a losing strategy 010
Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 6hAt work I'm thinking of higher-level ideas and when I tell Claude to build it, if I avert my eyes for a second, it goes and builds something completely wrong & broken. There are so many micro-decisions that go into building something robust, unless you're on a well-trodden road of building CRUD apps 110
Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 16hThis is not the important bit but we all share the same first name too 000
Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 16hAs a Turkish software eng, I’m disheartened to see more than one high profile Turkish dev join absolutely deplorable companies. This is very opportunistic and reprehensible, makes me question our moral fiber. 100
Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 19hCan’t we believe two things at the same time? Like copyright is bad but also AI labs using our materials to make a profit is also bad. 000
Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 05/10/2026Lovely! I also plan to move my content to Atproto at some point. Also your website isn’t linked in your bio fyi 010
Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 04/10/2026Awesome writeup. We were promised these kinds of performance improvements but it’s nice to have it actually benchmarked. And so happy to see that React Compiler results in desired results with idiomatic code, free lunch! 010
Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 02/10/2026> You can tell your agents to be WCAG-compliant (or whatever tools your team uses), and it can just… do it. Call me a pessimist but I have yet to see evidence of this claim 030
Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 01/10/2026This mini saga put a speed bump on my transition to Nix and breaking free from fascist hosting provider that rhymes with incel I can probably get back to work this weekend 000
Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 01/10/2026Can everyone just stop slopping up landing pages, for like, a second? Clicking a link on the orange site I can never tell if it’s a new startup, an open source project, or someone’s shiny new “skill” (or “dotfiles”) 010
Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 30/09/2026Bizim de aklımızdan orası geçmişti tam lost media olmasa da yakın, olmazsa bi sorayım 000
Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 29/09/2026I have lost a bit of Nix machine config but I’m hoping I can recover it from the target machine 000
Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 29/09/2026I was also able to stress test that awkward state where most Nix artifacts are present but not the Nix store virtual drive. It took a few tries but now I have a brand new Nix and nix-darwin installation. It’s amazing to see how far Nix has come along in terms of user experience. 100
Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 29/09/2026They replaced the motherboard, which means the soldered on disk Luckily I had a few days old Time Machine backup on an external drive. Nix store is intentionally excluded from backups so I had to re-set it, which was a good opportunity to move from DetSys installer to the official fork. 100
Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 29/09/2026I didn't expect a random background music from a 90s fantasy sitcom Ruhsar to go this hard. I want to find out who made this song and listen to more of their stuff. 000
Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 29/09/2026CI stats were already making this meaningless and now it’s tenfold 010
Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 27/09/2026This is aspirational, but it’s getting increasingly harder to be intellectually active with an AI agent, as we’re exhausted all the time from decision making and ever increasing workload and higher expectations and the models are sounding more plausible etc etc 030

Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 22/09/2026I guess it’s better at defusing when it inevitably makes mistakes, Claude makes it much worse trying to recover ughhh 110
Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 22/09/2026I hate the guts of Opus 5 yet infinitely understanding towards Qwen3.8-Flash-Next. One is running on a supercomputer and the other is literally in my living room and hums when I ask it questions. 151
Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 21/09/2026Yeah I’ll most likely migrate to clan once I’m done with my more immediate tasks. I’m impressed that darwin is supported as well! 010

Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 21/09/2026You can totally have `npm install <pkg-name>` as the interface and have the `package{-lock}.json` source of truth, front and center. 100
Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 21/09/2026There's a chasm between easy-to-use but imperative vs declarative but hard-to-use that's in my opinion totally artificial. Not enough tools overcome this by making the UI user-friendly but making the output the source of truth. Some examples: Gparted - Disko nix install - environment.systemPackages 100
Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 20/09/2026I gave it a deeper read after posting :D the docs refer to the inventory as fleet, but yeah it seems deeply personal and solves exactly the kind of problems I had to solve myself It’s pretty well done 100
Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 20/09/2026I'm having real fomo for not being able to attend 2026.nixcon.org This is the year I'm getting serious about my Nix usage personally and professionally. Hopefully next year! 000

Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 19/09/2026The balances throughout the history acted like a pendulum that'd swing back when things went too far, but this time it may be different. This is a generational technology that may help us destroy everything we know, and there may be no coming back from this. Hope that I'll be wrong about this. 000
Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 19/09/2026I'm trying to be hopeful that we'll adapt and even though it looks grim now it'll get better, but the worst aspect is that it's not going to be equally distributed. The rich is already investing everything they have in it and I have no reason to believe that they'll be willing to share the spoils. 100
Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 19/09/2026There's also the sycophancy aspect that will never go away no matter how much you tune it. When you have a genie that'll do whatever you ask for it, no matter how dumb, that's going to affect people's psyche. That used to be only for the rich select people, now it's democratized and it's not okay. 100
Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 19/09/2026It's already replacing human connection and destroying communities. And I'm afraid they aren't coming back. Yes, it's easier to ask a chatbot than an actual person, but there was more than just getting an answer & we're losing the track of that. AI is trained on that and that well's being dried up. 100
Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 19/09/2026I find the LLM technology fascinating, and personally use it in my work and personal projects (trying to be as ethical as possible in my personal use) But I'm getting increasingly convinced that it's bad for us. Not like water usage or theft aspect, or its dangers, but when it works as designed. 100
Fatih Altinok @fatih.6nok.org · 19/09/2026We don't owe it to be nice to those who don't believe in equality and human dignity. It doesn't even have to be that. Annoying people in our communities poison the well and tolerating them is doing a disservice to everyone else. Let's be intentional about whom do we treat nicely. 031
